How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2010 Acura MDX

Today on this 2010 Acura MDX we are going to install part number 13354 from Curt. First thing we need to do to get started is lower the spare tire. It makes everything a lot easier to thread the bolts in and tighten them down. The next thing we want to do is lower the exhaust. There is going to be two rubber hangers on each muffler so we are going to spray them down with some lubricant and then pry them off any way we can and then we will get to installing the hitch. You will notice that when we took down the first bumper hanger it came down pretty good already so it might be a good idea to run a strap around the exhaust components to keep them from falling down. Lets move on over to the rubber hanger. Spray it down and remove it. 00:38

We will repeat the same procedure back over on the driver side. Now we will use our strap to slowly lower the exhaust. Now we can show you where the hitch attaches to the vehicle. There are four threaded holes already in the frame. We are going to run the bolts in and out of the threads to make sure they are clean. This is a brand new vehicle but still you can get dust and dirt in there from time to time so it is always a good idea to test fit the threads. To make things easier to install the hitch it will probably be a good idea to remove one of the heat shields so we can pop it up into position. 01:08

To install our hitch this is the hardware we are going to use. The bolt obviously, the lock washer, and the flat washer. This is going to be the same all the way around the hitch. When we put our hitch up we are going to have to get an extra set of hands to help hold it up there. Now we can torque down the bolts as specified in the instructions. With the hitch torqued down in place we can reinstall the heat shield for the muffler and then reinstall the exhaust. We will get some measurements that will help in picking out a ball mount or a hitch accessory. From the ground to the top of the receiver opening is 17 inches and from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the outer edge of the bumper is about 4-1/ 2 inches. That will finish our install of part number 13354 from Curt.

On a 2010 MDX does the spare tire fit back in? This was not shown on the video.

Yes, the spare tire does still fit under the vehicle after the hitch is installed.
