Best 2019 Mazda CX-9 Trailer Wiring Options

Today on our 2019 Mazda CX-9 we're going to be taking a look at the best options for trailer wiring. Now our main option for vehicles with a factory tow package is going to be right here. It's the Tekonsha part number 118278. Now for vehicles without a towing package, these are going to be your options. Right here we have the Tekonsha part number 119147KIT. Over here we have the CURT part number C59236.Now to determine if you vehicle has a factory tow package, it's going to be in the back passenger corner.

Now you will need to remove this panel, and the tow package has an eight-pin plug on it. If your Mazda has a factory tow package, this is going to be the harness for you: one connection, a ground, and then just running the wire out to your receiver. Now if your Mazda doesn't have a factory tow package, they do involve a little more with wiring and splicing and running a wire to the battery. Now both the Tekonsha and the CURT are both fuse-protected, and they come with included fuse holders. The CURT, however, is a heavy duty model, and it comes with a higher amp fuse. Comes with a 15-amp fuse compared to the Tekonsha, so if your trailer has a lot of lights, you don't have to worry about overloading it.Now the two wiring harnesses for the vehicles without tow packages, your four-pole flat and wiring is going to be on the outside, whereas the Tekonsha with the factory tow package, your wiring's going to stay inside the vehicle until it's ready to be used. Now one of the nice features of the Tekonsha is that it does come with a circuit tester, so when you are wiring it there's no need for any other tools.

Now as far as the wiring that's going to come out to our trailer, both the CURT and the Tekonsha have about the same amount of wire, but the Tekonsha for the factory tow package is about 8" longer so it gives you that little bit of leeway. Now all of our wiring harnesses are going to have the protective cap on the end of the four-pole flat so you don't have to worry about any moisture getting in there. Now all three of our kits are going to use a module protector box. That's going to keep any issues that may happen on the trailer end from backfeeding into our vehicle. In summary, ease of operation, the CURT and the Tekonsha for vehicles without tow packages are going to take it because the wire's going to be right next to the receiver and we don't have to get anything out. As far as ease of installation goes, the Tekonsha with factory tow package is going to take it here simply because of the simple installation of one plug and a ground, whereas the vehicles without tow packages, the CURT and the Tekonsha are about the same as far as installation goes. As far as vehicle protection goes, they're all going to be on par with each other because they're all going to make sure that any problems that happen with your trailer don't backfeed to your vehicle.

That'll finish up the look at the wiring options for your Mazda CX-9.
