Best 2011 Nissan Rogue Hitch Options

Today on our 2011 Nissan Rogue, we're going to be looking at the Hidden Hitch Class 3, Part Number 87663. The Draw-Tite Class 3, Part number 75902, the Curt Class 2, Part Number 36542 and the Curt Class 3, Part Number C13204. Now at first glance all of our Nissan hitches that we have here are going to look the same. We've got very subtle differences in the hitches that we're going to point out to you to really help out in deciding which one is going to work the best. Our Hidden Hitch and our Draw-Tite, they're essentially the same hitch. Something that they do have, that you're not going to see with your Curt, it's going to be the dual pin set-up here on the side.

What that does is the rear hole, the hole closest to the front of the vehicle takes a standard 5/8ths inch pin, just like your other Class 3, Curt here, but they've got that second hole right here in the front. That's what really stands apart from the Curt. This is going to allow you to use that J-pin stabilization device. Another standout that we see here, this is going to be our Class 2, Curt hitch. The Class 2, Curt is a little smaller profile. It's going to look a little bit smaller on the rear of the vehicle.

It's actually the one that we've got installed on the Rogue there today. This is going to allow us to still haul our bike racks. Still gives us good towing capacity, but it's not so big and bulky on the rear of the car. The fourth one that we've got here at the bottom. This is going to be our Curt Class 3.

This one really has some standout features to it or stand out advantages. One's going to be, with the Rogues we tend to run into an issue to where the hitch is tucked underneath the rear of the vehicle quite a ways. Some bike racks, some cargo carriers, they just don't want to work properly with it. This is going to give us the pin hole location furthest to the rear of the vehicle. This hitch is going to give us the most opportunity for those items to work. From the rear of the bumper to the center of the hitch pin hole, it's only five inches.

The same is going to be said for our Class 2 here. Five inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of our bumper, whereas with our Draw-Tite and with our Hidden Hitch, we've got 5-3/4 of an inch. Those holes are going to be further underneath the rear of the vehicle by 3/4 of an inch. Another standout feature about the Curt that can be important if you plan on towing. You're going to have that camper or some kind of trailer behind you. The tongue weight rating on this is actually 525 pounds. For the other two Class 3's that we have, it's 350 and our Class 2 is 300. Now as far as gross trailer weight rating, 3500, 3500, 3500 and 3500. The advantage that we have is going to be just in that tongue weight. Aesthetically on the vehicle, we're not going to see a big difference between our hitches. The way they're designed, just this lower section, just the receiver tube is all that's going to be exposed below our bumper. The little plate that we have here on top, it's going to rest snugly right up against the bottom of that bumper leaving our actual main tubes hidden from sight. You can see on the end of the Class 2 Curt, Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch, they've got open ends. Our Curt has an open end as well, but it's a much smaller diameter hole. That might prevent some of that dirt, debris and stuff from getting in there, causing corrosion down the road. Now the Class 2 option that we have here available is going to be slightly different. Like our Hidden Hitch, Draw-Tite and the Curt, they're going to have the 5/8th pin hole diameter. The Class 2 uses a 1/2" pin hole, so 1/2" accessories and things like that are what we're going to want to use. Also the pricing differences with your 1-1/4" versus your 2", it's not that much different, so if you want the most adaptable and most commonly used hitches out there. The 2" are probably going to be your preference. If you already have a bike rack at home that fits only an 1-1/4" hitch, well that's giong to be your guide. There's no sense in buying another bike rack to fit a different hitch, when there's one that's available here that can do a great job. Don't overlook it if you like a nice clean looking hitch and you've already got some accessories to fit it, but if you're new into it and you're just getting going, the 2" options here, it's going to give you a little more versatility. As far as safety chain connection points go, these are going to be exactly the same. Same diameter bar, same width on them. One thing we're going to notice, a slight, slight difference is with our 1-1/4" tube being a little bit smaller by about 3/4 of an inch, that's going to open these up just a little bit, but really no usable difference. Now the differences we'll notice, as far as how it looks on the car, you see we talked about how nice and tucked up it is. How we don't see our main cross tube here. We talked about how this pin hole is in a little bit different location. On our Draw-Tite and our hidden hitch it'll move from this location 3/4 of an inch farther back under the vehicle, so it'll be about in this area, which can make it a little bit more of a challenge to get the bike racks and stuff like that to fit on here properly. Now the two Curts, well, there's the 1-1/4" or the 2" to the inside top of the receiver tube opening here. It's 13-1/2". On the Draw-Tite and the Hidden Hitch to that opening it's 14". Now that could be slight variations in the tape measures we use and stuff like that. They're going to be pretty close here, but there will be a 1/2" difference. That's not really a big deal. It's going to still give us good ground clearance there at the back. The key thing that we want to focus on is the 3/4 of an inch that we gain here moving that back just slightly.
