Best 2009 Volkswagen Routan Trailer Hitch Options

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the best hitch options for the 2009 Volkswagen Routan. This is going to be our Class II, and these two are going to be our Class III hitches. Your Curt and your Draw-Tite are going to mount the exact same way. You're going to have three mounting points on our driver's side, two of them on your passenger's side. Now, on your Class II Draw-Tite, you're only going to have two mounting points on the driver's side, and two mounting points on the passenger's side. All three hitches use existing hardware that's already on the vehicle. Now, your Curt hitches are going to require a stabilization strap.

However, your Draw-Tite's are not going to require it. Now, both your Curt and your Draw-Tite Class IIIs are going to have a 400 pound max tongue weight, and a 4,000 max trailer weight. Now, both your Class IIIs can be used with weight distribution. Both max tongue weights, are going to be 500 pounds. And max trailer weights are going to be 5,000 pounds. Now, on your Class II, you're going to have a 300 pound max tongue weight, and a 3,500 pound max trailer weight.

Now, all three are going to have loop style safety rings that provide you with great access in the front and the back for your safety chain hook up. Now, with the Curt, you have a little bit longer neck, so it's probably going to stick out a little bit further. With your Draw-Tite, the neck's a little bit shorter, but you do have the option to have a J-pin stabilization device. It's going to take the shake and rattle out of all your hitch mounted accessories. All three hitches are going to have a conventional square, cross tube design, that's going to hide up behind your bumper. Now, we have this Class III Draw-Tite mounted on a 2009 Routan.

Let's go ahead and take a look at it.As you can see, the hitch is tucked back behind the bumper, so you don't have to worry about hitting your legs on it. However, you still have good access to your hitch pin hole, and you J-pin stabilization hole. Your Class IIIs are going to be more versatile. If you're carrying a heavier load, these are going to be the better option. Or, if you're looking at like a cargo carrier, or bike rack, this is going to be a better option for you.And that'll do it for the look at the best hitch options for your Volkswagen Routan..
