Today on this 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Series HD regular cab we are going to be installing Westin nerf bar part number 23-1400. We are looking at the driver side of the vehicle and the first thing we want to do is locate the body mount, the front and rear. The front body mount is located just rear of the front tire. If you follow rearward just about even with the edge of the door just below it is our rear body mount and that is what we are going to be attaching our nerf bar set up to. With those located we are going to start with the front body mount and what we want to do is remove the existing bolt. You can see that it is likely that the rubber bushing is going to come down as well and that is fine. We want to take that and set it off to the side for the time being and remove the rear body mount bolt. 00:55
With the bolts and bushing removed we are going to start with the front body mount and put our brackets in position. If you take a look at the brackets each one has got a stamping on the front indicating the position that it belongs to. The first letter indicates either the driver side or the passenger side. The second letter indicates front of rear. You see that the bracket has a slotted hole on both the top and the front and what we are looking for is to have the reinforcing plate towards the middle of the vehicle. With that we want to take and put the bushing back on top of the bracket and we are going to reuse the same bolt that we just removed. Feed that back into position and thread the bolt in just enough to hold the bracket up into position. From there we are going to go to the rear body mount and do the same thing. Again we are going to put the bushing back on top, use the existing bolt, and thread it back up into the body mount. 02:04
With the brackets installed we can put the nerf bar into position. Take a look at the nerf bar you will see that the pad is off set and we want the bar with the off set towards the front of the vehicle. Also if you look at the end of the tubes you can see we have got an existing weld nut built into there so we are going to take the provided 3/ 4 inch screws along with the flat washer and lock washer and those are going to go through our mounting brackets and thread directly into the weld nuts. We are going to put that up and mount it flush with the mounting bracket. Insert the bolt from the inside and thread it through the nerf bar. Again we are going to leave that hand tightened for the time being. Move back to the rear bracket and do the same thing. With the bar up in position we want to take a step back and determine what position we want to put the nerf bar in. Between the bracket which you can move in and out and the bar which can be moved up and down you can determine the actual positioning you want the nerf bar to be in in reference to your door. Then with your position determined you can start tightening the bolts down to the bracket and the nerf bar. Then finally with the bolts tightened down we are going to go back through and torque each one of the bolts down and you want to verify with the directions the specific torque rating for each of the bolts. We are going to start by torquing the body mount bolts first and then we will come back and tighten down the nerf bar bolts last. Then with the bolts torqued down our driver side nerf bar is installed. We just want to repeat that same set up for the passenger side and our installation will be complete. That will conclude the installation of Westin nerf bar part number 23-1400 on a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 series.
