How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2006 Mazda Tribute

Today on this 2006 Mazda Tribute we are going to install part number 87585 from Hidden Hitch. This will also apply to part number 75693 from Draw-Tite. At this point we can start fish wiring using the pull wire, we are going to put it through the hole we are going to use and out the access hole. Next we will put the spacer block inside and we will push it on to the wire and push it into the frame and then we will thread the bolt in, push that into the frame as well, It would be a good idea to put it head first and then pull it on through. The driver side is done, lets do the same thing for the passenger side. At this point we can install the hitch by the two bolts that we installed. You want an extra set of hands to help hold it up while you push the hitch into place and thread on the conical tooth washer and nut. Now we have got the hitch hung by the two bolts. Lets get them finger tight to where we can line up the holes inside the frame with the hitch. 01:11

It will still move up and down but we want it to do that anyway. Next we will install the hardware and it is going to be the same carriage bolt and block. We are going to go through the hole we are going to use on the side of the frame through the hitch and out the bottom of the access hole and thread the carriage bolt. Take off the wire leader and pull. Put the conical tooth washer on and the nut. That is why you leave the hitch loose so you can work it in there. The driver side is done, now lets go to the passenger side and do the same thing one more time. Now that we have got all of the hardware installed lets snug them down and draw everything up against the frame of the vehicle and then we will torque the bolts down as specified in the instructions. With all of the bolts torqued down that will finish our install. Now that we have got the vehicle off the lift lets give you a couple of measurements now. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground is going to be about 16 inches and from the center of the hitch pin to the outer edge of the bumper is going to be about 2 inches.
