How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2002 Toyota RAV4

On this 2002 Toyota Rav 4, were going to install part number 75125 from Drawtite. The first step involved is to take down this tie down bracket. We will show you where the hitch is going to mount up in the frame. It is going to use these two existing studed holes in the frame. On the passenger side it is going to be identical. And what is nice about this is that the bolts in there are relatively easy to clean out. On the other side though there is not a tie down bracket take a few moments to clean out those threads over there. We will work on that next. :28

Alright we are going to spray these down even though we just got the bolts out of them just to make sure we get all of the dust and the extra grime that came out with it and we will thread our bolts in just to make sure it works. Alright this is our other side that doesnt have anything in there, so it is going to take some work. So what we will do is spray it down and when you do that we can go ahead and run our bolt in. And be very careful about doing this so you do not cross any of the threads starting off. It is going to appear like our threads are too big, but it is just a bunch of dirt and grime in there. Once you get it started then you want to back it off and do that two or three times and you can see some of the junk is already coming out. 1:07

At this point we can go ahead and start installing the hitch. What we will do is rest the hitch on the muffler side first and we will go over to the drivers side and start installing our bolt. Then go ahead and install the other two bolts that are going towards the front of the vehicle. With our bolts started, we can go ahead and snug them down. Leave them a little bit loose because it is good to have a little bit of free play left and right. Take a second to move the hitch and center it and then snug it down. 1:34

At this point with our bolts snugged down we can go ahead and torque them down as specified in the instructions. And with just those four bolts we are all done, and there you have it for part number 75125 from Drawtite.
