Review of Titan Trailer Brakes T4489500

Today we're going to review part #: T4489500. This is the Titan Galphorite free backing hydraulic trailer brake assembly for the right hand side of your trailer. This drum brake assembly will have a galphorite plating which will deliver superior corrosion protection. The backing plate and the shoe levers are sealed with permanently bonded electro coat primer. Has a second coat of rugged acrylic which is applied to the backing plate which makes it virtually rustproof. The wheel cylinders are treated with a hot black oxide, the internal components are zinc plated and it has stainless steel springs.

Because of the galphorite plating this is a good brake assembly to use in any boat or marine applications. The free backing design will let you reverse without trailer brakes being activated and it is designed for use with hydraulic brake actuators that do not include the reverse lockouts. And this is a 12 inch by 2 inch brake assembly. The way you measure that is the diameter of the brake shoes would be 12 inches and the width of the brake shoe will be 2 inches. This does use a five bolt mounting pattern, so what you will need to do is check the axle on your trailer to make sure that the brake mounting flange will have five bolts.

The center hole diameter is 3 1/4 inches in diameter. This brake assembly when paired with a left hand assembly will fit on axles rated up to 6000lbs. This does have a one year warranty and a 2 year corrosion warranty. And briefly on the free backing system, what that means is that it will let your trailer move in reverse without actuating the brakes. When you begin backing up the brake shoes are firm against the drum as in any braking situation and as you continue in reverse the shoes will turn with the drum until the lining pressure is released and you're able to back up freely.

And just a quick tip, the way you can tell this is a right hand side assembly is the smaller shoe will face the front of the trailer, the larger shoe will face the rear of the trailer and usually on a free backing design the smaller front shoe will have like a D pattern or a D design to it. And that should do it for our review of part #: T4489500.
