Review of Titan Brake Actuator T4839300

Today we're going to look at the Titan swing-away actuator with the manual lock out for drum brakes. It fits a 2" hitch ball, has a 7,500 pound weight capacity. This hydraulic actuator will sync your trailer brakes with your tow vehicle brakes. This one happens to be a space saving swing-away design. What that means is . let me just pull the clip out and we'll pull the pin out .. then you're able to see that this will actually swing-away.

This will mounted onto your channel of your trailer and you can see that this will swing away. The reason that they do that, it'll create a lot shorter tongue for storing the trailer. This fold-away portion right back here, you can get it to swing either right or left, all you have to do is just switch the position of the pin clip and the bolt and then flip your . In other words, right now pin and clip out, take your bolt out, flip your channel mount bracket over, put your bolt on this side, your pin over there, then it will swing the other way. Whatever way you need it to swing, you can do it. Let's go ahead and put the clip back in.

It does have a manual reverse lock-out. It is manual. Basically, this little clip here is what would do it. This will let you go in reverse without actuating your trailer brakes. What you basically have to do, you take this little lever right here and you put it right behind the roller pin.

You can see like that it'll just hold it into place. This actuator that goes in and out, when you go into reverse it'll keep it from going and applying pressure . keeps your brakes from activating. When you're done, when you go to go forward, it'll pull out this way, you can see that lever will fall right out. Because of using that manual lockout, you don't need to use any type of free backing brakes.

They're not required. You can use this with uni-servo and dual-servo brakes. The breakaway kit is included. You can see this cable with the hook on the end. This is attached to the master cylinder underneath here. The breakaway kit, this hook attaches to your tow vehicle, and what happens is if your trailer disconnects from the vehicle, it'll pull this breakaway cable that's attached to the master cylinder and it'll activate the brakes to lock up and keep the trailer from a run away situation. This is a weld-on installation . right back here, this just welds on to your channel or the tongue of your trailer. A few specs on this . The application, this actuator is for hydraulic drum brakes. If you notice, right here on the top you just turn this black cap and pop it off, you have access to the top of your master cylinder so you can access the brake fluid in your master cylinder. The ball size, this coupler is designed to fit on a 2" ball size. I happened to pull a 2" hitch ball. I just want to show you how this latch, it's a very nice latch here, how it operates. I'm going to spin it around this way and I'll show you all you have to do to hook up is just pull this pin out. Once you pull that out all the way, all you have to do is on this little rounded portion, it slides, so just push this and it will slide open just like that and you're coupler opens. It goes right onto the 2" ball and all you have to do is push that down and it holds it right into place. To make sure you lock it out, just put this pin back in. What that does is, even if this unlatches, it'll keep it from going up, keeps you from detaching from the hitch ball. Then to remove, just pull that pin back out and then as you see, if you lift that up it'll detach right from the hitch ball. Very simple installation. The pivot length will be measured from the center of the bolt to the center of where the hitch ball is, the center of the coupler. If we take a ruler and go center to center, it's going to be 22" for the pivot length. The mounting on this, it fits 3" wide by 5" tall channel tongues. Right here I'll show you where that's measured. It's internal measurement, so 3" wide, and then you can see it's 5". This will also fit on 3" by 3" and 3" by 4" channel tongues but you do need to use a spacer block, which we do sell separately on our website. It's part number T4842100. It is listed on this product page as a related product. The weight capacity on this actuator is 7,500 pounds. Maximum tongue weight is 750 pounds. That should do it for the review on the Titan swing-away actuator with the manual lockout for drum brakes, fits a 2" hitch ball, and has a 7,500 pound weight capacity.
