Titan Brake Actuator - Surge Brake Actuator - T4750600 Review

Jeff: Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at Today, we're going to take a look at this Titan Bolt-on Surge-type Disc Brake Actuator for a two and 5/16 ball. Has a three inch drop, and a 12,500 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer's brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically, what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs.

And the momentum will push your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. So with a surge brake system, this actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. So when this happens, the inside portion of this actuator will contract back to the rear, and applies force to the master cylinder. And then this in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. This one, you can see as a nice unique top roller design. Has a roller right up here.

And if you look on the end of that roller, has a nice insert fitting for easy lubrication of that roller. This will help reduce resistance during the telescoping to create straight line movement. This is a nice sturdy, durable steel construction. Resists bending in any jackknife situations. Has a nice sync-plating to it to provide corrosion resistance.

And it does include the breakaway kit. And the breakaway kit is actually required by law. Because it's use to preventing trailer runaway situations. So just wanted to show you, it has this long chain here that attaches to this lever. So when you go to hook this up, you'll hook this hook on the chain to your tow vehicle.

And what'll happen is, if you get in a situation where the trailer gets disconnected from the tow vehicle, it'll pull on this chain, which will activate the lever. And that lever will put pressure on the master cylinder here, and allows it to apply the brakes on your runaway trailer. Now, this is a bolt-on installation. If you see on the bottom here, it has the holes for the bolt-on installation. A few specs on this, again. The application is for trailers with disc brakes. The ball size that this fits on is a two and 5/16 diameter ball. And the drop it gives you is three inches. So this built-in drop will help you match your tow vehicle height. Gross towing weight capacity on this is 12,500 pounds. Maximum tongue weight capacity is 1,250 pounds. And when you do bolt this on, it is designed to mount to a straight three inch wide trailer tongue. Now, one last note I do want to mention on this actuator. Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout in the rear here. It is recommended that you either equip the trailer with a reversed lockout solenoid on the back here, or to install free backing brakes on your trailer so that you can drive in reverse without this actuator triggering your trailer's brakes. But that should do it for the review on the Titan Bolt-on Surge-type Disc Brake Actuator for the two and 5/16 ball. Has a three inch drop, and a 12,500 pound gross towing weight capacity.
