Review of Thule Cargo Tie Downs TH521

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number TH521. These are the Thule Load Strap Cinch Straps with padded cam buckles. The tie downs are going to let you secure a variety of items to your cargo carrier or your roof rack. It's going to be perfect for kayaks, canoes, surfboards, and a lot of other gear as well. It's going to have the included protectors that surround the buckles with a rubber padding. That's going to help prevent scratches on your vehicle and your gear.

On this end of the strap you're going to have a looped end with a cam buckle attached. That's going to hold the strap tight over your gear, so all you have to do is place the plain end of the strap through the buckle and then basically, just pull it tight until you feel like your load is secure. Before you do that though, you want to make sure that you get the protector on there. Very easy to do. All you've got to do is place the strap through. You're going to want to run it all the way to the buckle.

Once you have it close, now we're able to go ahead and place the plain end of the strap through here and then we would be able to tighten it over our gear. It's going to have some really nice teeth in there. That's going to grab onto the strap, making sure that it doesn't come back or reverse out of the buckle. We definitely don't want a strap that's going to loosen up during travel over our gear and potentially have our gear come off of our roof or our roof rack, so it's got those really nice teeth that really hold on to the strap. If you do need to release it, you just push on the lever and it's going to allow the strap to move freely inside the cam buckle. Once you have this cinched down and tight over your gear, you simply just take the rubber protector, slide it up over the buckle and that way it's going to protect your gear.

It's going to protect your vehicle from any scratches or anything that that exposed buckle may cause. The cam buckle is going to have a chromate-plated steel, so it's going to have that chromate-plated finish on it, so it's going to resist rust and corrosion. The strap itself is made from a durable polypropylene material, very strong and durable, and these products are going to be made in the USA. Your strap length is going to measure about 9' long. The width is going to be 1".

It's got the nice yellow Thule logo that goes all the way the length of the strap. These are going to have a safe working load limit of 750 lbs when the strap is looped and a maximum load or break strength of 1125 lbs when the strap is looped. You're going to get 2 cinch straps with this part number and Thule is going to cover them with a limited lifetime warranty. Just keep in mind that tie down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit, so you want to make sure that the weight of your secured cargo does not exceed the combined working load limit of the straps being used. That's going to do it for our review of part number TH521. These are the Thule Load Straps Cinch Straps. .
