Review of Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring 118649

Today we're going to take a look at the Tiguan Vehicle Wiring Harness with the Four Way Flat Trailer Connector. This is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2014 and newer Freightliner Sprinters and Mercedes Benz Sprinters 2500, 3500 models. On a custom fit part I always like to recommend to go to our website and use our fit guide. Put in your year and model vehicle and it'll show you if this will work for your application. This harness will provide this four way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. This is compatible with five pole, six pole, and seven pole adapters that we sell separately on our website.

This does connect very quickly and easily. Basically, you just locate your connection points in the rear cargo area, which are behind the tail lights, plug in these T-connectors, one for each side. One for the driver side, one for the passenger side. Ground your white wire and then run this black power wire up to your vehicle's battery. This does include this module light power converter right here to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer. It is a powered module; that's why you'll connect this black wire to the battery and that's to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system.

If you notice the wire that the four way is attached to that comes out the back to plug into your trailer, it's constructed of a 16 gauge bonded wire. If you notice the four way has this nice integrated dust cap on it, so when you're not plugged in when you're towing you can just put your dust cap over the terminals and that'll protect the terminals from any damage or from the elements. A few specs on this harness. The maximum amperage for the stop and turn light circuits is 5 amps per circuit. For the tail light circuit it's 7.5 amps. Now, this part does come with everything shown here.

I want to briefly show you where all these parts go. Basically, it does come with a nice set of detailed instructions that'll describe how to install it, and even give you pictures on how to install it. Basically what you want to do is go to the rear of your vehicle in the cargo area, go behind the tail lights and you want to start on the driver side. This is the yellow wire with the T-connector. You'll disconnect your harness from the tail lights, plug this into the harness and the tail lights. Then what you'll want to do is run this green wire that has an extra length of wire, that's for the passenger side.

Run this over to the passenger side. You'll do the same thing, plug this T-connector in behind the tail lights. Once those are all connected your module lights, you want to make sure you do secure this to a nice flat surface so it doesn't bounce around, so they do include this piece of double-face tape that you can put on, attach it down that way. You could use a screw if you like to hold it down that way, or even some cable ties could hold it. Either way, you want to secure this so it doesn't bounce around. You'll run your 16 gauge bonded wire with the four way on it out the back, and then you'll have your two remaining wires; the black wire and the white wire. If you notice, the white wire has the eyelet on it. That's for a ground. You'll want to connect this to a good clean ground if there's on nearby. If not, you can use this screw and drill a hole and make your own ground. The black wire needs to run up to your vehicle's battery. What you'll want to do is they give this extra length of wire and some butt connectors. You'll take a butt connector, put it on the power wire, connect it to one end of this length of wire and then run this all the way up to the front to the battery. You don't want to connect this directly to the battery; you want to run it through the fuse holder. Take the other butt connector, connect it to one side of your fuse holder just like that. Then your other side, you have this eyelet connector included that you attach this, and then this attaches to the battery. Once that's all connected what you'll want to do is pop this open. They include this 15 amp fuse. Just put that in there, put your cap on there, and now your system should be all ready to go. Again, they do include a lot of these cable ties to take up any slack in the wiring or to secure everything down. That should do it for the review on the Tiguan Vehicle Wiring Harness with the Four Way Flat Trailer Connector.
