Taskmaster Trailer Tires and Wheels - Tire with Wheel - TA76VR Review

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at these, this Contender ST235 80R16 radial trailer tire in a load range E. Mounted on this 16 inch white modular steel wheel with the 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this tire wheel assembly is ideal for stock trailers, utility trailers, and even campers. The wheel they use as a steel wheel.

It has the modular design to it. And when I say modular design, that's the design that has the round holes all the way around the wheel. This wheel is very sturdy and rust resistant. And the wheel does go through a three-step finishing process which include a zinc phosphate bath, e-coat primer, and then a nice white powder coat on the outside of the wheel. And if we spin it around to the back or the inside of the wheel, you can see it's lightly e-coated to reduce friction and provide rust resistance.

Now, this wheel also uses the ITR technology which stands for improved torque retention. That's designed to help keep the wheel securely in place on your trailer. And they do that by, let me just zoom in, I'll show you the stud holes here. They're uncoated stud holes. And they are beveled to give you better clamp force retention when you install your lug nuts and tighten them down.

Now, the tire that's used on this assembly is a radial tire. It is constructed with double steel belts, double polyester cords for a nice long life. It is great for highway use. And they do also use a nylon tread-firming belt overlay to help prevent tread separation. And the tire is bake tested to ensure that the rubber will hold up over time.

This is an ST tire which means it's a special trailer tire design. It couples the strength of a bias tire with the durability and stability of a radial tire. And it is created specifically for trailers. It's not intended for use on any other vehicles. This whole assembly does come with a two-year Platinum Plus warranty which will include emergency tire change service and other benefits. And the assembly does meet the DOT or Department of Transportation specifications, and will exceed Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Few specs on this, the diameter on the wheel, 16 inches. The width on just the wheel itself is six inches wide. Bolt pattern on this wheel is a 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern. And if you wanna measure that on a wheel that's an even number of lugs, like in this case, six, it's pretty easy cause the lug holes are directly across from each other. So, when you go to measure your bolt pattern, you just measure from this. Pick any hole, let's say this one. Measure from the center of that hole to the center of the hole of the lug right across from it. So on this, it'll measure 5 1/2 inches. So, that means it's a 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern. This will use a wheel lug size of a half inch by 20 or 9/16 by 18. Weight capacity of just the wheel is 3,500 pounds. And the pilot hole diameter which is the large hole here in the center of the wheel, goes over the hub on your trailer. Diameter of this opening is 4.25 inches. Tire size will be stamped on the sidewall. ST for special trailer, 235 80R16. The R means that it is a radial tire. Section width 9.3 inches. Overall diameter from the bottom to the top when it's inflated is 30.8. And the tire is a load range E which means it's a 10 ply rated tire. Has a maximum load capacity of 3,520 pounds at 80 PSI. And then, the last thing I do wanna mention is most all your trailer tires now are coming through with a speed rating stamped on them. And they stamp it by a letter designation. And where you'll find that is if you just go down by the wheel and see where the tire size is right here. Right after, you'll see two numbers for the load index and then the letter M. Speed rating M will mean this has an 81 mile per hour speed rating. But that should do it for the review on this Contender ST235 80R16 radial trailer tire in a load range E. Mounted on this 16 inch white modular steel wheel with the 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern..
