Rear View Safety Inc Backup Cameras and Alarms - Side View Cameras - RVS-MV1-L-01 Review

Michael: Hi there I'm Michael with Today we're going to be taking a look at the Rear View Safety side view camera. This can be mounted on the driver's side of your vehicle to be a side view camera, to help reduce blind spots, but it can also be mounted on the back of your vehicle, if you want to use as a backup camera. Either way, it's going to make it a lot easier and less stressful for you, when you're changing lanes, backing up or hooking up to your hitch. It's a very small camera. To give you a few measurements here. It's about, let's call it an inch and a quarter wide by an inch and a quarter tall.

It's going to stick out probably right about an inch. So it's very small and very compact, it's going to mount flush against your vehicle, so it's really going to look like it came with your vehicle from the factory. It's going to have a nice integrated OEM look to it, so it's going to blend in very well. And it's pretty simple to install. They're going to include all the necessary components to get it installed, including the 3M tape. There is one caveat I will note, you are going to have to drill about a quarter inch hole to pass your cable through.

When you do that, you do want to make sure that you have the cable unplugged. Obviously this end is much thicker, so you need a thicker hole that you can pass this through the same quarter inch hole that you're going to drill for your nut. And that's where the caveat comes in. Because once you have the cable pass through your hole, you're going to have to be able to reach up and tighten your hardware down onto the bolts here.So you're going to be limited in where you can mount this based on the ability to get up behind the fascia of your vehicle.` So it's going to work really well on like a tailgate or something like that, which is pretty easy to get underneath, but it might be a little bit more difficult on an RV, especially if you're mounting it pretty high up on the RV. You might have a few spots where it wouldn't be accessible, so you want to keep that in mind when you're deciding on where you want to mount this.It does come with a five pin connection, so it can easily connect to the rear view safety monitors.

It comes with 10 feet of cable. Again, you're going to have to run this behind the fascia or inside the vehicle, so keep that in mind. It is going to be a little bit more planning, I guess you would say on the install side, but it shouldn't be anything too difficult depending on where you decide to put it.The camera itself has a 150 degree all encompassing angle, so you're going to be able to see everything that's to the side or behind you depending on where you place it and it's going to have excellent night vision so you're not going to have to worry about not being able to see when it's dark out.It is completely waterproof, it's got an IP68 rating, which means it can withstand being in about five feet of water for a half hour. So it's definitely going to hold up against those soaking rains and even some of your spring power washing, depending on where you have it. You're not going to have to worry about it getting damaged on the inside, it's very watertight and it's going to hold up against dust and all that sort of thing as well. The temperatures it can withstand range from negative 40 degrees up to 158 degrees Fahrenheit.

So again, it's going to be a very rugged camera, it's going to blend in well with your vehicle, shouldn't cause you any issues, it'll give you lots of options and a peace of mind as you're driving. It does come with a one-year warranty from Rear View Safety. And that's going to complete our look at the Rear View Safety side view camera..
