Peterson Trailer Lights - Utility Lights - M126C Review

Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Peterson compact utility light. This is a pretty small light that is good for maybe a compartment or as a courtesy light. It's not going to put out a whole lot of light for you. So you definitely don't want to use it as an overhead light, but it will work in some of those smaller interior areas. Our lens is clear and it does have an incandescent bulb.

That is a premium bulb that is supposed to last up to 15,000 hours, provide 15,000 hours of light. The outer portion here is a chrome-plated ABS housing. So it's going to be nice and lightweight and yet still very durable. You can see when I turn here, this is going to be a flush mount system. So you'll mount it to your trailer roof or wherever you're mounting it with the included stainless steel screws here.

It is going to require a one and three sixteenths inch diameter socket hole for installation. This portion here will have to be recessed behind your surface, but once you have that hole drilled and you push this in, it will be pretty flat to whatever surface you're mounting it on. Our socket is a twist-in socket, so we can pull it out, take care of the bulb if we need to. It's going to provide us with two wires, a lead and a ground. Because of the makeup of this bulb, it is pretty simple so it really doesn't matter which you hook up as which. They'll both work as both your lead and ground. This is compatible with 12 volt DC systems, and it's only going to draw about 0.33 amps on your 12 volt system.

As far as our dimensions, it's going to be right about three and three fourths of an inch long. It's right there at about two and a quarter of an inch tall. And from the front to that back system, call it about two inches. So it's going to be very compact. I'm not going to take up much room at all.The distance between our mounting holes here where our screws are from center to center is right at two and 11 sixteenths of an inch.

Now, Peterson does call this a courtesy light. And I'm going to show you here in a moment just how bright this is. So you can see for yourself where you would want to mount this. I'm going to turn off the lights in the studio, turn on the light. And you can see just how bright that is. It's almost like a candle to me, in my mind. It's about that same brightness. So it's definitely not going to be something to light your whole trailer with or anything like that. It is made here in the USA. And it does come with a one-year limited warranty from Peterson. So that's going to be good to know, give us a little bit peace of mind knowing that they stand behind their products. And that's going to complete our look at the Peterson compact utility light.
