Review of Performance Tool Tools PTW3904

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Performance Tool bench vise. Now, bench vise is attached directly to a workbench or a work area to hold a work piece in place while working on it. If you're sawing, planing, and drilling these come in handy. Attachment hardware to get it attached to a workbench is not included. This piece right here is how you would open the jaws. It's got nice, easy operation. Very easy to use and very easy to open.

I also want to point out that this unit does feature a quick-release lever that's located right here. This allows you to open or close the jaws quickly and easily. So you rotate it to an open position. That's going to allow you to adjust it to the width or to the opening that you need. Once you have that set, you simply rotate it to a closed position and it's going to lock it in place. The unit does sit on a 360-degree swivel base.

That swivel base has three mount holes on the base. Again, mounting hardware is not included. Then it's got the double lockdowns for easy positioning. So, you tighten those down and that's going to lock the base into a position. Really nice design.

Very easy to use. The unit's made from a steel construction with a durable powder coated finish to keep it safe from rust and corrosion. The unit also features steel replaceable pipe jaws for holding pipe around stock. It's got the recessed area or the detent right there to firmly grip that. When it comes to the jaw width, that's going to give us a measurement of five inches. These can be opened up to seven inches. The throat depth from the top of this surface here to the top of the jaw is going to give us a depth of three inches.

The jaws do feature a textured surface for maximum grip. I also want to mention that we do offer some soft grip pads. Those are available and sold separately. That's going to protect whatever it is that you're holding with the vise. The unit right here is going to feature a polished built-in anvil. This is a precision machined surface for flat shaping. It's going to measure about 2-3/16" by 1-7/8". I did take some overall measurements of the unit with it in the fully closed position. I got an overall length measurement from edge to edge of about 18" and an overall height measurement to this point, here, of about 8-7/8" tall. The mounting base side to side measured about 7-5/8" and back to front measured about 8-1/4". These holes right here are separated on center by 6-1/8". If you draw a straight line between the center of those holes and measure out a straight line up to the center of this hole, they measure about 6-1/4" to 6-3/8". This vise is going to weigh around 38 pounds. That's going to do it for today's look at the Performance Tool bench vise.
