Hopkins Tow Bar Wiring - Splices into Vehicle Wiring - 38955 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Tail Light Isolating Diode System with the Wiring Harness. Now, when you're flat towing a vehicle, this kit installed on your towed vehicle will allow a motor home, or an RV to power the lights on your towed vehicle without power feedback. Basically, what it does is it'll permit electrical current to flow in only one direction from the motor home to the towed vehicle, which will prevent any electrical feedback. This part will include everything shown here on the table. The four pole flat trailer connector with a 35' long wire lead. Now the white ground wire is about 42" long.

The wire configuration of the four wires, the brown wire is for your left and right sides running lights. The green is for your right side turn and brake lights. The yellow is for your left side turn and brake lights, and we mentioned the white's for the ground. It does include these four diodes and their connectors. The maximum amperage per diode is three amps. Maximum voltage is 24 volts.

Now, a note I do want to mention that if you have a three wired system on your towed vehicle, three wired system would mean a separate red brake light and a separate amber turn signal. If the towing vehicle also has that three wire system where the brake signals sent along a separate wire from the turn signals, then you will need a wiring converter on part number 118158, which we sell separately, and two of these additional diodes to retain separate amber turn signals if you prefer. If you just use this kit on that then the vehicle brake lights will function as both a brake and turn light. But that should do it for the review on the Tail Light Isolating Diode System with the Wiring Harness.
