Review of Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring HM11142104

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-way flat trailer connector. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2013 to 2016 Dodge Dart, and on a custom fit part I would like to recommend for you to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you if this will work for your application. This harness will provide this 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. It is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adapters that we do sell separately on our website. This whole unit does connect very quickly and easily. Basically, you just locate your connection points, which are in the rear cargo area behind the tail lights.

Plug in these connectors, one on each side, one on the drivers side, one on the passenger side. Ground your white wire, and then run your red power wire to your vehicle's battery. It does include this tail light converter, this flat box right here, and this is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer, and it is a powered module. That's why you'll connect it directly to your vehicle's battery, and that's to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. They do use protective connection terminals to help resist corrosion. If you notice, it does come with this nice dust cap, or dust cover, for your 4-way, so what you can do is just attach that to the plug, and you can leave it attached on there, if you'd like. But when you're not plugged into your trailer, you just put that over the terminals, and it protects them from any damage, or from the elements.A few specs on this.

The maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights circuits is 3 amps per circuit. For the tail light it's 6 amps per circuit. Now this part does come with everything shown here, included in your parts here, to install it, and it even comes with a nice set of detailed instructions that'll describe how to install everything. But just basically what you want to do is, again, you'll go to the rear cargo area and gain access to behind the tail lights, and you want to start on the drivers side, and you'll take this T-connector here. It has a yellow wire in it.

Unplug the harness from your tail light to plug this into the tail lights into the harness. And then do the same on the passenger side. You'll take this other connectors here with the green wire. That's for the passenger side. Run this length of wire over there. Plug that in behind the tail lights.

Now what you want to do is this converter here, you do want to attach that to a surface so it doesn't bounce around, so they do include some cable ties to attach that down. And then you'll have these two wires remaining. The white wire has an eyelet on it. You want to connect that to a good clean ground. There's one nearby. If not, they do include a grounding screw so that you can make your ground. And then the red wire with the butt connector on it, this is what'll run to the vehicle's battery, so they do give you this extra length of wire to do that. So you'll connect one end to one end of the length of wire. Run this all the way to the front. Now you don't want to connect this directly to the battery. You want to run it through this inline fuse holder first. So you take that, attach that to one end, and then the other end, it has the eyelet on it. That's what'll connect to the battery. Once that's all connected, pop open your fuse holder, take your included 15 amp fuse, install it just like that, put your cap back on it, and now your system will be all ready to go.If you notice they do include a nice packet of terminal grease, or Dielectric grease, and then you want to put that on all your electrical connections to help prevent any corrosion. But that should do it for the review on the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-way flat trailer connector.
