Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we take a look at this Gen-Y executive 5th wheel to gooseneck pin box coupler with the auto latch design. And this is for the Lippert 1621 and 1621HD pin boxes. And this has a 25,000 pound towing capacity. Now this 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter pin box, this will let you tow your 5th wheel trailer by using your gooseneck hitch ball. This 5th wheel pin box will replace the factory pin box that's on your trailer.
This one here is designed to replace the Lippert 1621 and the Lippert 1621HD 5th wheel pin boxes. Basically the coupler right here will attach to your truck's 2 5/16 inch diameter gooseneck hitch ball. Now this one uses a unique shock absorbing design, which ensures a nice, smooth, steady ride. Basically the technology right up front here functions like a torsion axle to limit the transfer of road shock from your trailer to your truck and vice versa. I did wanna pop up an insert just to show you as we talk about it, but basically right here, the tubes here and the tubes right here are designed like that insert.
Basically what it is, it has an outer tube with rubber cords around the inner bar, and this design will reduce chucking and rough fore-and-aft motion, helps limit bounce and jarring and up-and-down motion. And what's nice about this type of system, there's no air bags that you have to maintain and fewer moving parts to repair or replace than with some of the other shock absorbing solutions that are out there. Now, this does use an auto latch coupler right here with a nice cable release that's included. Basically, this auto latch coupler here makes hooking up your trailer really easy. Basically when your hitch ball moves into the coupler tube right up here, the latch will instantly engage it, so there's no need to have to manually open and close the latch once the coupler's on the ball.
Disconnecting it is also very fast and easy. Normally it requires that you crawl into the truck bed to access release the latch. This Gen-Y adapter box can actually be disconnected from outside of your truck bed using this cable right here. You can see it has length to it. So this included cable attaches to the latch right up front here on the coupler space.
So when you're ready to disengage it, you just simply pull this cable, and when you pull it it'll release the ball from the socket and you can unhook, no need to climb into your truck bed. Now, another feature on this I wanted to talk about, we're gonna zoom in on, uses this built-in mechanical scale right down here. You can see the scale on one of the arms here. This is so that you can check to see if your vertical load is too high or too low. And the reason you want to do that is vertical load, or pin weight, refers to the weight that is fully, a fully loaded trailer will jerk downward onto the hitch ball in your truck bed. And the reason that's critical is too little vertical load can cause your trailer sway, too much can cause poor performance. So if you look at the scale right here at the very top, that highest red area on that scale, that indicates your maximum vertical load, which on this one is 5,500 pounds. And then if you go to the bottom, you can see the lower, the lowest red area indicates there's no vertical load like it is right now, so it's zero pounds. So what you wanna do is, you notice that white marker right there. You want that white marker, when this is all hooked up and loaded, you want that white marker to be inside that middle green area. That's the recommended area for this built-in shock absorption to function effectively. That green area's roughly 3,500 pounds to 5,500 pounds. So you do want the marker in that area, and then that means you're all set. Now another thing I do wanna show you is on each side, there's one here, and then one on the back side. You can see these cross-shaped holes. These are here to provide attachment points for your safety chains. Safety chains are required to keep your 5th wheel attached to your tow vehicle. So you can hook them right on each side here. This is a nice heavy duty steel construction, has a nice powder coat finish to resist wear and corrosion. And it is a simple bolt on installation. You can see the mounting holes. You just lined up with the ones that you, when you removed your factory one, and then you mount with your existing bolts. This part is made in the USA. And as we mentioned, the towing capacity on this is 25,000 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Gen-Y executive 5th wheel, the gooseneck pin box coupler with the auto latch design for the Lippert 1621 and 1621HD pin boxes..
