Hi there. I'm Michael with Today, we're gonna take a quick look at the shock absorbing fifth wheel to gooseneck pin box by Gen-Y Hitch. This is gonna be for those of you who have a fifth wheel trailer, and are wanting to pull it with a gooseneck ball. So, whether you have a bunch of different gooseneck trailers that you're used to towing, and all of a sudden you've gotten a new camper, or something along those lines, that uses that fifth wheel connection instead, there's several different ways that you can go about hooking up that trailer to your truck to pull it. The first would be you can get a whole new system installed on your truck bed, so that you can use a fifth wheel hitch to pull your fifth wheel, but that's a big pain, because those are big, heavy, bulky hitches, that you'd have to put up into your truck bed, and take out anytime you wanted to haul with the gooseneck.

They do make specific hitches that attach to your gooseneck ball. So, rather than having to drill new holes, and that sort of thing, you could attach it directly to the gooseneck, and then have that hitch there for your king pin on your fifth wheel to connect to. So, that is an option, but again, it is very bulky and heavy that you'd have to switch out frequently. So not necessarily ideal. Your second option would be an adapter that fits onto your king pin of your fifth wheel pin box, and then attaches to your gooseneck ball.

Adding on an adapter like that, is just gonna make more points of connection, and it's not gonna be nearly as secure. So of those two, the first one is definitely the better option. But, then you come with this guy, and this is going to be probably the best option in my opinion. So, rather than having to put a big, heavy hitch in and out of your truck all the time, or having to worry about that security connection, this is going to switch out your pin box, so it's no longer going to be a fifth wheel. It's going to be a gooseneck.

It's still gonna function exactly the same on the pin box itself. It's gonna be very easy to switch those out, but then you're going to have that one-time install, and then you're never gonna have to worry about putting in a different kind of hitch into your truck bed. So, it's gonna be much easier for you in the long run, to get this switched out, so that you can pull that fifth wheel trailer with your gooseneck ball. So, let's go over some of the features that we've got here. The first thing I wanna talk about, is how easy this is gonna be to install.

So, you can see our pin box mounting bracket back here. It's already got the holes that you're gonna need, so basically, just pull up your truck, get your jacks out, so that you can lower your original pin box down safely, and then put this one up in its place. You can use that exact same hardware to bolt through here, and get this mounted in place. Now, this is designed specifically to replace the Lippert 1621 or 1621 HD fifth wheel pin boxes. So, if you have either one of those, you can trust that this is gonna work for you. It's gonna fit right in place, be a nice snug fit for you. This does have a sturdy steel construction. So it's going to give us a towing capacity of 21,000 pounds. That of course, is the weight of the trailer and the load included. Then, we're going to have a maximum pin weight, or downward pressure, on your gooseneck ball of 3,500 pounds. So, that's the max. And then your minimum pin weight, is going to be 1,500 pounds. Now, you might not be super familiar with that minimum weight standard, but the reason they have that, is because of our shock absorbing technology here. So, the way this functions, it needs that minimum weight to properly engage the system, so that it can absorb. This system really works like a torsion axle, if you're familiar with that kind of concept. So, in each of these pivot points here, there's a square bar with rubber cords all around it. So, as your truck and trailer hit road bumps, and get shocks, and kinda jostled around, that square bar is going to be turning against those rubber cords. And those rubber cords are going to be absorbing some of that shock, so that it's not transferring from your trailer up to your truck, and vice versa. So, it's gonna be a much smoother ride for you. It's gonna reduce that bouncing, and jarring motion that you sometimes get, as well as the chucking and rough fore and aft motion. So, everything's gonna be much more comfortable for you. One thing that's really nice about this system, comparable to other systems that are shock absorbing, that use an airbag, you're not gonna have to worry about maintenance. With those air bags, you do have to ensure that it's got the right amount of air pressure in there. So, you have to monitor that, to ensure that it's going to be operating properly. With this, all the components are internal. They're very long lasting. So, just once you get it installed, it's gonna automatically do what it needs to do. You don't have to worry about any of those components. You just need to make sure that you've got that right pin weight, so that it's not too high, not too low. To help you with that, they do have this indicator over here on the side. So, you can see we've got a red sticker, green sticker, red sticker, and then that white line there. So, as we load up our trailer, and get ready to tow, we wanna make sure that that white line is aligning with this green portion of the stickers. So, this pin weight scale is going to help you balance your trailer, know how to get all your load secured, so that it's going to properly engage that system. So, once everything is set up, you're ready to go. This is going to attach to your standard 2 5/16 inch hitch ball. So, very easy to get connected. It's got a self latching lever, that is automatically going to engage as soon as that hitch ball is in the socket. So, you're not gonna have to worry about climbing in there and putting a pin in to lock it in place. It's gonna automatically latch onto that ball. And then to release it, they've got this cable here, that you can access from the back of your truck. It's gonna be hanging out right there by your pin box. So, you pull on that cable, and it's going to lift up on that lever there to release it. So, you can very easily just pull that back. You don't have to, again, don't have to climb into your truck bed to access a pin back there. Very easy to just pull on that lever. And that's going to allow you to become disconnected, so that you can get unhooked, and everything else. You can see on the sides here, we do have these cross shaped attachment points. These are going to be for our safety chains, so that we can get those hooked up very easily. They'll slide in place there. So, we have that extra point of connection for us. You can see this does have a nice powder coat finish. It's gonna help resist wear and corrosion, help it last a nice long time for us. And this product is made here in the USA, so you can trust it's made to the high quality standards that we've come to know and trust, for products that are made here in the US. So overall, things to think about when you're trying to decide if this is gonna work for you or not, really, in my mind it's basically a comparison of this versus that fifth wheel hitch that sits in your truck bed that will attach to your gooseneck ball. Those are really the best two options in my mind. This has the benefit of just being mounted on at one time. And then, it's just as easy as getting hooked up, and you don't have to worry about lifting that big heavy hitch in and out every time. But, then you do also wanna make sure that you're getting a weight capacity that's going to match your trailer, so that you can tow properly with that shock absorbing system not being too overloaded. What specific Model Number of Gen-Y Hitch do I need to convert my Fabex 520 Fifth Wheel Pin Box. The Trailer is a 2005 Alpenlite Augusta 32RL and I pull it with a 2012 Ford F-350 SuperDuty Crew Cab Four Door, Four Wheel Drive, 6 3/4 Bed with a 6.7 PowerStroke Diesel with the 6 Speed Automatic Transmission. Currently Gen-Y does not offer a shock absorbing hitch that fits in place of your Fabex 520 pin box. Unfortunately they only offer a replacement for the Fabex 665 pin box. We don't currently have any gooseneck conversion options that will mount in place of the Fabex 520. I have linked all of the replacement pin boxes that we offer that will fit in place of your current pin box.
