Review of Flex-a-lite Transmission Coolers FLX4126-6V

Today, we're going to take a look at the Flex-a-Lite Translife Transmission Oil Cooler and Cooler Guard Kit. This cooler has the -6 AN fittings and a Class 5 rating. This kit will include both the cooler and the cooler guard. The cooler we'll start with is a Translife transmission cooler. It provides additional cooling to protect your automatic transmission. It is designed to mount in front of your radiator or your air conditioning condenser. Now, cooler transmission oil will give you more reliable consistent shifts and it prevents any transmission damage that could happen under extreme towing conditions.

The kit for the cooler is everything here at the top. It includes the cooler, the mounting hardware, and a nice set of installation instructions. The cooler uses 1/2" brass tubing, and what's unique about this cooler is in on the inside of the tube they actually have a high-twist turbulator design, and what that does is it allows the fluid as it goes through the tube to actually twist or turbulate and that will help improve the heat transfer as the fluid goes through the heat exchanger. The cooler is an aerospace epoxy construction. Again, it has the inlet and outlet fittings are a -6 AN fitting.

This is considered an 8-pass configuration meaning it goes through the heat exchanger 8 different times as you can see the tubes, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8. This does have a Class 5 rating. I do want to give you a few dimensions on the cooler itself. We're going to measure from the edge to this edge. If we take our tape measure and we go edge to edge, you can see right at 20" wide. The height from the very bottom to the very top is going to be right at 10" tall.

The depth on the cooler itself is going to be right at 3/4" deep. Now, on the cooler guard that's included, this is a Flex-a-Lite Cooler Guard. It is designed specifically for this FLX4126-6 cooler. This cooler guard is designed to protect your transmission cooler from any damage it would be caused by rocks or road debris without compromising the cooler's ability to release the fluid temperatures. You can see how it drops right on over there.

Just like that, that will protect the heat exchanger from any damage to it. You can see it comes with all the mounting hardware. It includes the cooler and the aluminum cooler guard itself. It does include these unique gator clips, which are pretty nice because they're made to go around the tubing and then it holds that guard onto it. The other nice feature about the gator clips, when you mount it to the cooler, it provides an air gap between the guard and the cooler. It helps with the cooling of the oil cooler. It comes with a nice set of detailed instructions on how to install it. I do want to give you also the dimensions on the guard itself. The overall width on the guard is going to be right at 17" wide. The overall height will go from the very bottom to the very top. It's going to be right at 10-1/2" tall. The depth on the cooler guard is going to be right at 1" deep. That should do it for the review on the Flex-a-Lite Translife Transmission Oil Cooler and Cooler Guard Kit. The cooler has the -6 AN fittings and a Class 5 rating.
