Review of Dutton-Lainson Trailer Winch DL10974

Speaker 1: Today, we're taking a look at the Dutton-Lainson hand winch. This is a worm gear winch that is designed for heavy-duty vertical lifting applications. So what that means is, basically you can crank one direction to lift and then the other direction to lower. Then the load automatically holds when the reel stops turning. The loop drive lets you use a shepherd's hook or a power drill to crank the winch. So in most applications, this is actually mounted in this orientation, and then you would have a cable installed to the winch.

Your cable would be coming down, you'd attach it to whatever it is that you're wanting to lift. Attach your shepherd's hook here, and then as you rotate, it lifts up. Then rotate the other direction to lower it back down.So really nice design. We're looking at laminated high-carbon steel gears that are heat treated for long life. Also the heavy gauge embossed steel base offers extra strength and durability.

The unit does feature permanently lubricated bearings on the driveshaft, so those are maintenance free. Has a nice powder-coated copper bronze finish. And this is designed for use with a cable. Winch cables are sold separately and available at etrailer.com. The bottom of the unit features multiple mount holes and mount hole sizes for easy mounting.

Mounting hardware not included. The product is made in the U.S.A. It has a capacity of 2,000 pounds. The drum hub diameter is an inch and a half. Gear ratio is 40:1, so that means for every 40 full turns of the loop drive, the entire assembly completes one full rotation.Few measurements I want to mention for you real quick.

I did take a measurement from very back to very front, and I got a measurement of 7 1/2". I also took a measurement from edge to edge including the hardware, got a measurement of 6". The overall height, bottom to top, is around 6 7/8". Then the base has a width measurement of 4 3/4" and a length measurement of 5 1/2".That's going to do it for today's look at the Dutton-Lainson hand winch.
