Review of Dexter Axle Trailer Brakes K23-086-087-00

Today, we're going to take a look at the Dexter 10 Inch Electric Trailer Brake Kit with the left and right hand brake assemblies and parking brake for 3500 pound axles. Now, electric brakes are a lot easier to install. They offer more user control than hydraulic brakes. Basically, they require only an electric brake controller, which we do sell separately on our website. There's no inaudible 00:00:18 or hydraulic lines necessary with electric brakes. Now, these assemblies here actually also include the manual parking brake lever right here at the very top, also on this one. That's used on a trailer that would have a parking brake.

Now, these are also manual adjustment brakes so, in other words, adjustment lever down here is what you would turn to adjust your brakes. To do that, you would access . Now does require periodic manual adjustment. To do that, it requires you .. There's two access holes down here that you put your tool through, or your screwdriver, to turn that gear around to adjust your brakes. Now, what's nice about this, if you notice, they do include the adjuster plugs that'll cover those access holes.

That's nice because it keeps any dirt or grime out of your brake assembly and off the brake shoes. Now, this part will include everything here on the table, includes the left hand driver's side assembly, the right hand passenger side brake assembly, all the mounting hardware is included also. The dimension on this is 10 inch diameter by two and a quarter inches wide. What they're measuring, the 10 inch, would be the diameter, which is measured from this brake all the way across, this brake shoe, all the way across to this brake shoe. You can see there's your 10 inch diameter. The two and a quarter inches would be the width of the pad on the brake shoe.

You can see if we measure that, that's two and a quarter inches. You notice on the back, has the four bolts inaudible 00:01:33 requires a brake mounting frame's bolt pattern, four bolts. Does require the use of 10 inch brake drums. The wheel size that'll work on these brake assemblies is 13 inch, 14 inch and 15 inch. Again, the axle that these are rated for is a 3500 pound axle. Now, electric brakes, let me show you here, there's two wires in the back you can see.

They do need to have these wires connected for them to function. One goes to the brake feed, the other goes to a good, clean ground. They're both green wires, so you can use either wire for either function. The last thing I just want to show you is this is a left hand driver's side, right hand passenger side and how to tell the difference in them. When you get a new assembly, of course, there will be a sticker that'll tell you which one's left, which one's right. If the sticker isn't there, the easiest way to tell on any brake assembly is just look at the length of the pad on the shoe. This pad goes from here to here. This pad is all the way from here to here. This is a longer pad, this is the shorter pad. The shorter pad is your primary shoe. The primary shoe will always face the front of the trailer, so that's telling you that this is the right hand passenger side. If we go to the other one, same way. The pad goes from here to here. This pad is all the way from here all the way to here. Shorter pad is the primary shoe, faces the front. There's your left hand driver's side assembly. That should do it for the review on the Dexter 10 Inch Electric Trailer Brake Kit with a left and right hand brake assemblies and parking brake for 3500 pound axles.
