Review of Dexstar Tires and Wheels AM20440
Today we're going to look at the Dexstar 15 inch by 5 inch black steel mini mod trailer wheel with the 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. This wheel is a nice sturdy steel construction. It is the modular or mini mod design, and by that design they mean it has the round holes all the way around the design of the wheel. It has a nice black powder coat finish on the front and the back of the wheel and that black powder coat is over our e-coat primer, it gives you excellent corrosion resistance. This is a high quality wheel that meets the department of transportation specifications and it is made by Dexstar which means it is made in the USA. A few specs on this. The dimension is 15 inches, the width is 5 inches.
When we measure that on a diameter of a wheel you always measure inside the inside and that's bead seat to bead seat. Basically when a tire is mounted on this wheel the tire beads will seat right there so what you're measuring is inside to inside. If we put a tape measure on that you can see right at 15 inches for the diameter. The width is the same way, you're going to measure inside to inside or bead seat to bead seat, so it's going to be right at 5 inches, so 15 by 5 inches. The bolt pattern on this wheel is a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. If you go to measure bolt pattern on a wheel that's an odd number of lugs, like in this case 5, what you want to do is pick any hole, we'll pick this one, and then you're going to measure from the center of that hole directly across to the outer edge of either one of these holes.
The trick is you want to make sure it's from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge. If we take a tape measure and put center to the furthest edge you can see is right at 4 1/2 inches, so 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. It does use a wheel lug size of 1/2 inch by 20. Pilot hole diameter, that's the large hole here in the center of the wheel, it goes over the hub on your trailer. Diameter of the opening on this wheel is 3.19 inches and the weight capacity on this wheel is 2,150 pounds. That should do it for the review of the Dexstar 15 inch by 5 inch black steel mini mod trailer wheel with the 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern.
