Michael: Hi there I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Curt RockerBall shock absorbing hitch ball. This is going to mount onto your standard ball mount, and it is going to provide that same attachment point for your 2/16 and 5/16 inch ball coupler on your trailer so that you can easily pull your trailer down the road. But where this is going to be different from other hitch ball options is that it's got this integrated shock drop technology on it.So you can see, this has a pivot point here that's going to allow that ball to rock forward and back. It's got cushioned isolators inside so that if you make a sudden stop, it's going to help absorb some of that shock as the ball moves forward. Same if you make a sudden acceleration, the ball will rock back to try and help smooth out that ride, so you don't get that sudden jerking sensation.
That's going to help minimize the stress on your tow vehicles, suspension, and brakes, and it's going to just make it an overall more enjoyable ride for you and your passengers. This hitch ball is going to be your standard 2/16 and 5/16 inch ball. So it will work with that coupler, no worries there. It does have a weight capacity of 7,500 pounds. Now keep in mind, you always want to make sure that you're going with the lowest number between your ball, your ball mount your hitch and your vehicle, make sure that you're not exceeding any of the weight ratings on those. Your setup's only as strong as your weakest link.
So keep that in mind. Another thing too, this will work with almost all existing ball mounts, but this will sit up about an inch and a half higher than your standard hitch ball due to the shock absorbing base.So you want to make sure that you're going to have room for that in your setup, and you will need to make sure that your mounting platform is going to have a least 3/8 inch thick steel or metal plate there for this to mount onto. And the hole for your shank needs to be no more than 1/16 of an inch larger in diameter than this threaded shank here, which for this model is one inch. So you want to make sure that your opening is no more than an inch and 1/16 in diameter. But our one inch diameter threaded shank is going to provide a nice tight grip so that as we tighten down the included lock washer and nut, we get a nice sturdy grip so that we don't have to worry about it moving around on us.You can see on the inside of our shank there, we do have a grease Zerk to keep everything lubricated and to make sure that this is going to keep moving the way supposed to.
Now, these are all made of quality components. So we've got forged steel for our anti-swivel base. We do have a black powder coat finish on the base so it's going to resist rust and corrosion, those sort of things. And on our steel ball, we also have a corrosion resistant chrome finish. So all of this is going to help it to last a nice long time, give you a nice sturdy, solid long-lasting option. You aren't going to have to worry about airbags or bearings or anything like that, other than greasing up through that grease Zerk every once in a while.
This is going to be a pretty maintenance free option for you to help smooth out that ride. This has been tested and it meets the SAE J684 specifications. So it's those high quality standards. You can trust it's going to do a good job for you.It does come with a one year limited warranty. So if you we're to have any problems within that first year, you could give us a call, we'd be happy to help you out with that. But I really don't think you're going to have any problems with this. I think it's just going to do a good job of providing that connection point for your trailer and allowing you to have a much smoother ride so that you don't have to deal with that jarring when you're stopping and starting. So that's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.
