Curt Trailer Hitch Ball Mount - Fixed Ball Mount - C45534 Review

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we'll take a look at this Curt towing starter kit with the two-inch ball for two-inch hitches. Has a 7,500 pound weight capacity. Now, this starter kit will contain all the basic components you need for towing. Comes with the ball mount, with the hitch ball, a hitch pin and clip, which is stored inside, I'm going to show you that when we remove it, a nice hitch receiver lock and a nice rubber hitch cover.

And if you notice it comes in this nice storage case, reusable case, that let you store all the components together. And the other nice thing is if you notice the lock here, it keeps the ball mount locked in so nobody can take it and even keeps the rubber cover from coming out.So once you take your keys here and unlock it, then you can remove everything. And it's a quarter of a turn, which is really nice. You can remove your hitch lock. And then with that removed, you can see you can take out your ball mount.

And then take out your hitch cover. Just like that. I'm going to set the case aside.I will start with the ball mount. The ball mount to select your hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank portion right here is what'll slide into your vehicle's two-inch hitch receiver and the ball mount is what provides the mounting point for your hitch ball.

They do include the hitch ball. It's a two-inch diameter hitch ball. Provides a connection point for your trailer's coupler. And the nice thing about it, is it is pre-torqued to the ball mount. So you don't have to worry about that.I had mentioned earlier, it does also include the...

To fill this out the five eighth inch diameter hitch pin and clip and that's to insert it in here. When you install this into your hitch receiver, you insert it through that hole that hold it into place. But the other nice feature is they even include the hitch receiver lock. This nice hitch receiver lock helps prevent theft of any hitch mount accessories you might use, or you can even lock your ball mount to your hitch receiver. It has a very easy-to-use design, as I mentioned. It's a quarter-turn of the key. So if you turn it a quarter of a turn and go ahead and put it onto the. Turn it there, turn it, release it, and it's all locked into place. And then you can put your dust cover using this nice watertight dust cap to prevent any internal corrosion of the lock. And as I mentioned, it comes with two keys. So once you slide this into your hitch receiver, you can put your lock through there if you prefer to lock it into place. Now, these are sturdy steel constructions with rust resistant finishes. You can see on the ball mount it's a nice black powder coat finish and on the hitch ball it's a nice Chrome-plated finish. It comes with this rubber hitch cover. So in other words, if you're not using the ball mount, if you just have your open hitch receiver on your vehicle, this rubber hitch cover will go insert in. It's a friction fit. You just push it in. It'll stay in. Helps keep any dirt or debris out of your hitch receiver when you're not towing. And we mentioned the nice sturdy, reusable case that let you store all the components in one place.A few specs on this. Again, the application, this is designed to fit a two-inch by two-inch trailer hitch receiver. Gross towing weight capacity is 7,500 pounds. Ton weight capacity is 750 pounds. The ball size diameter is two inches. You can put this in this way and it'll give you a two inch drop. And the drop is measured from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. So you can see if we put a ruler on that, two-inch drop. Now, if you do want to use the rise position, you can do that. You would have to change your ball and insert it into this. Change it over. And it'll give you a three quarter inch rise again from the shank to the top of the platform. So about a three quarter inch rise if you need that. The ball mount length, which is measured from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball itself, you can see that is right at seven and a half inches. But now I want to show you how you can put it all back into place. So we'll go ahead and take our hitch pin and clip and put it back into the ball mount. We'll get our case right here and we'll go ahead and drop our ball mount into place. Take our hitch cover, push that right into place. Just like that. And then we'll go ahead and take our hitch lock and unlock it. And then you just slide this up between the two holes. And then take your lock, put it on there, put our key in there, open it up, drop it onto the lock and then it's locked into place. Put our dust cover on, take our keys with us and then you're all ready to go. Just like that. Everything's all in one place. But that should do it for the review on the Curt towing starter kit with the two-inch ball for two-inch hitches and a 7,500 pound weight capacity.
