Curt Fifth Wheel Hitch - Fixed Fifth Wheel - C57FR Review

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at Today, we're going to take a look at this Curt Q20 5th wheel trailer hitch for the Chevrolet and GMC towing prep packages. Has a 20,000 pound weight capacity. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks with the eight-foot bed and the factory installed towing prep package.

And on a custom fit part like this, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you if this will work for your application. Now this 5th wheel hitch is designed to Mount in your truck bed so that you can show your 5th wheel trailer. It does use this nice two jaw locking system here, which provides the 360 degree jaw to king pin contact. That'll give you less rattle, more security than the slide bar models. It does use a unique spherical axial bearing, which allows easy pivoting of the hitch head. It'll give you a smooth 360 degree movement, not just front to back or side to side tilting.

It does offer built-in cushioning to absorb any road shock. And it does have three built-in grease zerk fittings for easy lubrication of the jaws and of the axial bearing. If you look right under the jaws, there's a grease zerk fitting that's for the bearing. And then if you look on each side right here, there's an arrow that will point to the zerk fitting. And on this one, it'll point to one on this side.

That's for the jaws on each side. So it's very easy to get your grease gun in there. Hook it up to the zerk fitting pump the grease in there. The handle on this is a nice sharp throw handle operation to open these dual jaws. Has this pin and clip right here that if you just remove it, it's tethered on. So you don't lose it.

Flip, open the lever. Then in one short throw, you can pull it out and the jaws open. I'm going to show you that in a minute here and the handle, the hole here when you put your lever back in there to lock it, there's a hole right here in that hole is large enough that the pin and clip goes through that it is large enough you could actually put a padlock through there. If you want additional security padlocks, we do sell separately. Now one of the main features on this is they have a color coded lock indicator system, and that's on the back of the handle. I'm going to sort of spin this around and then going to zoom in here. And if you look right here on the handle, you'll notice this circle here you can look at, it'll show a color in there. That color indicator will let you know the position of the jaws. So right now you can see it's showing green. That means the jaws are locked close. If the king pin would be in here, it'd be locked around the king pin and you're ready to tow. When you pull this to open it, let me just show you that. You'll see. When I go to pull this to open it, it'll be showing yellow. And the reason it's showing yellow, that means these jaws are open. So you're ready to couple up. Let me spin this around and you'll be able to see the dual jaws you can see are open, ready to couple. And there is a red indication. If it shows red, that means the jaws and the handle are unlocked. You just can pull away to uncouple and let itself reset. You don't want to tell when it's showing red. And what's nice about these colors here. You can see these from the cab of your truck. So if you're in your cab and you turn around and by looking at that and seeing what color you see, it'll tell you what position your jaws are in.Also, let me go ahead and show you the back here. I got it turned around. You can see there's these two pins right here and these two clips. If you pull both those clips, pull those pins out. That'll allow you to remove this head from the cross member. So it makes it easier, a lot lighter. One person could disassemble this 5th wheel. I could take out the head, take out the cross number to take out the legs. Very simple. It will also give you a four inch hitch height adjustment. In other words, when you go to tow, you always want to be as level as possible. You want to make sure your towing vehicle and your 5th wheel is as level. So when you put this together for your application, this cross-member, there's three holes right here. And when you bolt it to the legs, there's three positions. So it'll give you a four inch hitch height adjustment anywhere from 13 to 17 inches. And that's always measured from the truck bed to the top of the hitch head. So you do want to get that as level as possible. When you're going to tow. It is a very fast, easy installation. Show you on the side here, it's designed to go into your factory under bed rails. So basically to install it, what you'll do is remove this clip, rotate these handles out on each corner at 90 degrees that rotates that tab. Do the same on this side. And then with an open like that, you're ready to drop it right into those pucks that are in your under factory, under bed system. Once they drop into position, when you rotate those handles back, it'll rotate those tabs, which will lock it into place into your factory system. Once that's all done, just put your pin back through the hole, clip it, and you're all ready to go. And you do the same on each both sides. This is constructed of a sturdy steel has a nice durable carbide powder coat finish on it. Does come with this included plastic lube plate that you'll install on your king pin and it'll let that king pin glide smoothly into the hitch during hookup, prevent any messy grease buildup on your hitch. Does come with all the installation hardware you need. Nice set of detailed instructions on how to put everything together and how it operates. A few specs on this. The application we mentioned is for a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra 2500 3500 trucks with the eight foot bed and the factory installed towing prep package. Gross towing weight capacity is 20,000 pounds. Vertical load limit is 5,000 pounds. We mentioned the hitch height is adjustable from 13 inches to 17 inches. Now, one note I do want to mention on this is this 5th wheel hitch is not compatible with rotating pin boxes, such as the Reese Sidewinder, Reese Revolution or the Fifth Airborne Sidewinder. And what I do want to demonstrate is how you would hook up. You can see right now is we have the jaws open, it's showing yellow. So what I'm going to do is I've got an example of a king in. This is what the king pin would look like on your 5th wheel. So when you go to hook up, your jaws are open. You'll go ahead and back up. Once it gets in far enough, you notice the jaws close, the handle slides over. And let me just show you, as we mentioned before, if you looked at the color there, it's showing green. So that means that you're all ready to go. You can go ahead and latch it, take your pin and clip, install it through there. Now you're all ready to go. Simple as that. And then when you're ready to uncouple, all you have to do is remove the pin and clip again, flip open the latch and then when you pull this, that'll actually, I'm going to try to hold on to this, but actually it will remove the, I just shot it, but that's how it'll end up removing the king pin. And then you're all ready to couple up again, simple as that. But that should do it for the review on the Curt Q20 5th wheel trailer hitch for the Chevrolet and GMC towing prep package has a 20,000 pound weight capacity.
