Video Transcript for Review of Curt Trailer Hitch Ball Mount - Fixed Ball Mount - C45065

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Curt Class III Ball Mount with the 2 5/16 diameter hitch ball, has a six inch drop, and a 7,500 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this towing starter kit has everything you need to tow, just minus the hitch. This does include this black powder coated ball mount with the 2 5/16 diameter chrome plated pre-torqued hitch ball, and even includes the 5/8 inch diameter pin and clip to attach it to your hitch receiver. Now, the nice black powder coat finish on this ball mount gives you superior rust protection, the chrome plating on the hitch ball also resist corrosion, and the hitch ball comes installed onto the ball mount, and it is torqued to factory specifications. Again, the ball size diameter is 2 5/16 of inch, the ball shank diameter's one inch, and on top of the ball, it is marked 7,500 pounds gross towing weight capacity.

Now, this is designed to slide into a two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver opening. Now, the ball mount length, which will be measured from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole, if we put a ruler on that center to center, it's gonna be right at 9 1/4 inches. The drop on this from the top of the shank to the ball platform, it's gonna be right at six inches, and the gross towing weight capacity we mentioned is 7,500 pounds, tongue weight capacity of 750 pounds. Now, I did wanna demonstrate how this would install. I happen to pull a two inch by two inch hitch receiver opening you can see right here.

So basically all you would do is slide this right into your opening. Once you get your hitch pin hole lined up, you take your 5/8 inch diameter pin, slide it all the way through, once you get it all the way through, put your clip on there, and once you get your clip on there, it's all ready to go in place. Now, we do also offer hitch locks if you wanna secure this more securely, so nobody takes it, we do sell those separately on our website. Now, one thing I also wanna mention, this comes with the hitch ball installed in the drop position. You can flip this over into the rise position if you want, but you would have to break that torque loose from the nut, turn the ball over to be used it in the rise position, and also if you use it in the rise position, it will reduce your gross towing weight capacity to 6,000 pounds and a 600 pound tongue weight capacity.

But again, to remove it, just pull your clip out, pull your pin out, slide your ball mount right out. And just like that, it's very easy to install, very easy to remove. But that should do it for the review on the Curt Class III Ball Mount with the 2 5/16 inch diameter ball, six inch drop, and a 7,500 pound gross towing weight capacity..

Box had a hole in it where hitch ball came through. Other than a couple of scratches there was no damage. Maybe how you ship might need to change. Thanks

Just your basic ball mount, the product is just like most 2” Hitch ball mounts, the service wasn’t very good though.
Ordered on June 15th (product was in stock) took them 6 days to send it out, took another 6 days in shipping and got all the way to my post office two days before leaving on vacation (I needed it for the vacation) and the post office said “box was empty and they notified seller” etrailer sent a new one (got here a week after my vacation) in a damaged box (packaging is horrible, little bit of paper in a box with a 5 lbs ball mount) almost lost this one too.
I don’t believe I’ll be using etrailer in the future (had issues before)

Looks & works great. Easy to install. Make sure you order or have a locking pin and ball to go with it.

by:

The one foot ball mount works great on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado work truck(no lift kit). We use it for a one axle, lawn care/utility trailer. It is used at least half the work week and has held up for a year. It may not be a good choice for a heavier trailer, but at that point we would also purchase a 2500 truck too. The mount helps clear the jack when the tailgate is opened with about 2 inches to spare.

by:

Our problem: back lift gate on our Subaru Ascent SUV would not clear the powered tongue jack on our Casita trailer. Technical person on the phone suggested this this extended ball mount was just the solution and has served us well. Easy to take on and off. Sturdy. No problems for > 9,000 miles of towing this year.

I have two of these. My first I bought two years ago. I very highly recommend this Curt Class III Ballmount 2" Drop because of its price, durability and quality. I towed various class 3 loads with ease and confidence with this ballmount. It slides into the hitch and does its job without fail. It looks excellent after towing a load.

etrailer's price is about as good as it gets and delivery is very speedy.

Comments
The Curt Class III Ball Mount with 2 Ball - 2 - 7,500 lbs is a very high quality, very heavy duty piece of towing equipment. I highly recommend it for anyone, professional or home user, for mid-level towing jobs.

WORK PERFECT! rust all over hitch ball, next, ill replace it for a chromed one

The hitch and ball mount are excellent quality. My concerns are twofold. The hitch is so heavy that I had to take it to my mechanic to have it installed. Minor cost and inconvenience, but the hitch for my previous F-150 was just as sturdy, but easy to install myself (albeit with higher ground clearance). My concern about the ball mount is that the factory told me erroneously that it could not be reversed for a drop, so I returned it. This order is for the replacement after I was finally correctly told it could be reversed and how to do that. Ball mount would have been a 3 for that reason, and overall hitch and ball mount quality a 5. So I averaged them.

Website was easy to use and order. Tracking the package was simple to follow and package arrived on schedule. Part works great

I used this on a 2014 Ford Fusion with a Reese receiver hitch made for my vehicle. Either the neck of the drop hitch is not long enough to get the ball a few inches away from the vehicle or the Reese receiver hitch sits too far under the vehicle.

Comments
The center of the hitch pin hole on your trailer hitch sits approximately 4-1/4 inches under the rear bumper of your Fusion. This ball mount measures only 5-9/16 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball hole. For a ball mount with similar rise but much more clearance for your bumper I recommend the Draw-Tite Drawbar for 1-14 inch Hitches # 36065
Draw-Tite Drawbar for 1-1/4" Hitches - 5" Rise - 10" Long - 3,500 lbs
$38.47
for use on your 2014 Ford Fusion. The Draw-Tite ball mount offers 10 inches of clearance from center of the hitch pin hole to center of hitch ball hole.

The product was going to come in late but etrailer offered a more expensive hitch substitute for the product I ordered. I was completely satisfied with the service, communication and product. This is the second time I purchased from etrailer.

High quality. Welds are top grade unlike a few of the discount drop hitches. It asl gives me the ability to use my backup camera and assist lines. I needed a good 9 inch drop hitch to pull my enclosed trailer with my 2020 Ford Ranger XLT super cab FX off road. I've got my vintage bike in the back and I needed to trust this hitch for long trips. It's perfect.

by:

Does the job, however there's a lot of play when hitch mount is inserted into the hitch and when towing with an empty trailer. Very loud. Have to buy a silencer that goes around and secures the product.

  • Availability of Curt Ball Mount # C45070 with Ball
For the Curt Ball Mount (4" Rise and 6" Drop) # C45070 that comes with a hitch ball you can use part # C45065 for a 2-5/16" ball or # C45064 for a 2" ball. Both options feature the same 7,500 pound towing weight capacity. Just keep in mind that the hitch ball does come pre-torqued from the factory with the unit in the drop position. It will require a bit of force to remove the ball so that you can flip the mount but you can certainly do this if needed. Otherwise you can simply order...

  • Availability of 5 Inch Drop Ballmount With Preinstalled 2 Inch Trailer Ball
We don't offer a 5 inch drop ball mount, but if you were to use a 4 inch drop like part # C93KR and installed a # 63845 ball, you'll get a bit of squat in the rear suspension of the vehicle (which would vary according to the trailer's tongue weight) that would put you close enough to the 5 inch drop you're looking for. The ball needs to be torqued to 250 foot lbs, but any local shop should be able to do that for you without charging you an arm and a leg. The trailer doesn't need to be...

  • What Should Ball Mount With 6 Inch Drop be Rated For With Titan Hitch Box Extension
So you only need the ball mount to be rated for (at least) the amount you are towing, which in this case is 4,500 lbs. That 4.5k is also the max capacity (when used at 34 inches) of the Titan hitch extension, which is the following part number: - Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches # RP45292 So as long as your ball mount is rated for the max 4,500 lbs the # RP45292 is rated for, that's all you'll need. There aren't actually any ball mounts with the drop you need that...

  • Extended Ball Mount For Towing an Enclosed Trailer Behind a Motorhome
I have a couple options for you as the Curt High-Low Adapter 45797 # C27KR is only designed to be used with tow bars when flat towing. The Curt Class III Ball Mount with 2-5/16" Ball # C45065 is only 9-1/4" long from the receiver hitch pin hole to the ball mount hole. The Curt Ball Mount # D-28 also has a 6" drop like the other Curt ball mount but this mount is 14-1/4" long from the receiver pin to ball mount hole. That would gain you 5 inches without using an adapter. The ball mount...
