Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendations for a 2008 Ford Escape
Question:
I have the plug in behind the rear bumper on the driver side. How do I know of my escape has the tow package? How do I activate that plug for the trailer wiring harness

Expert Reply:
Since you have the plug you most likely have the tow package and the correct wiring harness to use would be the # 118251 that you referenced. You can test this by using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the pins of the connector for voltage when the taillight circuits of your vehicle are applied.
If there is voltage there then the # 118251 would work well for you, otherwise you would want the # 118551. To activate that harness you would have to contact a Ford dealership to see if that would be possible.
I attached install videos for both products for you to check out as well.
