Brake Magnet Recommendation for a 12x2 Brake Assembly

Question:

I am trying to figure out the differences between the Magnets on a 12inch by 2inch Electric Brakes on a Trailer. My question is this. What is the Difference between the WHITE, GREEN and BLACK Magnets.. which is the WEAKEST and I am assuming the BLACK is the Strongest. In a Pinch, which is 2nd in line in terms of Strength?

Expert Reply:

The strength of a brake assembly isn't based on the sensitivity of the brake magnet. The best way to pick out a brake magnet is to get one that is rated the same as the brake assemblies. Going with a higher rated brake magnet won't give you any additional braking power. It will only make the brakes seem more sensitive and hard to setup with a brake controller.

If you have a 12 inch brake assemblies you would want the part # AKBRKR-M12. This magnet works for 5,200 to 7,000 pound 12 inch break assemblies.
