Using Curt # 18050 Reinforcement Strap on Thule Doubletrack Bike Rack Installed on 2005 Acura RL

Question:

Interested in this hitch for my 2005 RL. I believe it will accept my thule trouble track 990XT!platform rack, but Im concerned about the statement in the hitch description:All non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps.inch Not sure how to do this with this rack. Any insight?

The Curt # C11336 should accommodate your Thule Double Track Pro # TH9054 with no problem, but it's possible that you won't be able to take advantage of the rack's folding feature. We haven't had the opportunity to install this hitch on an Acura RL, so we don't know exactly how far under the vehicle the receiver opening will be once the hitch is installed. The rack will install as long as the distance between the hitch pin hole in the receiver and the furthest rearward portion of the back bumper are less than 6-1/2 inches apart, which should certainly be the case.

The warranty requirements of the hitch do indeed state that the # 18050 strap should be used with the rack. I'd have the strap loop around the bike rack on the upright between the two frame clamps. The hooked portion of the strap would attach to the rear edge of the trunk lid. I've linked you to some installation videos showing how the strap is used.
