Added Brakes to Both Axles of Tandem Axle Horse Trailer and Braking is Still Weak
Question:
Just had new brakes installed on my 2 axle Exiss 2 horse horse trailer because I was not getting sufficient braking on the trailer. With all new parts I am still not getting sufficient braking. I cannot lock up the trailer brakes, even with full power and minimal speed. Is there an electrical adjustment on the brakes of the trailer? The prodigy P2 is installed in a 2007 2500 Suburban.

Nine times out of ten poor braking performance on electric trailer brakes is related to brake adjustment. The brakes should each be adjusted so that there is a slight but constant drag of the pads on the drum when the wheel is turned.
I have linked a video and if you fast forward to about the 4 minute mark you can see how the brakes are adjusted.
You will also want to make sure that the trailer and vehicle side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. Also inspect the trailer wiring to the magnets and make sure there are no pinched wires or loose connections. The grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.
