is this 100 stainless steel? or steel with some sort of stainless plating?

Curt trailer hitch ball # A-82 is stainless throughout. When a ball or other part is plated or coated we do make sure to point that out in the description and/or the title.
Also the price is a dead giveaway since stainless is more expensive. A ball with the same rating and measurements from the same manufacturer only in chrome, # C40018, costs 3 times less!
