Question:
Hello friends at etrailer! I bought a Curt Ventura Brake Control 51110 from you some years ago and never really needed to install until recently. I also bought the Curt T-Connector Wiring Kit 56040 I think at the same time. I now have a need to install this brake controller, It is specific for my 2014 Subaru Forester. The first thing I ran into was trying to find the factory installed female connector in my wiring harness for my Subaru. I have not yet been able to locate it, do you have any ideas? Art

Hey Arthur, we can definitely help but your 2014 Subaru Forester does not have a factory brake controller connector under the dash like some vehicles have. So the Curt kit # C56040 that you installed is just for a 4-way that only supports the trailer taillight functions and does not have ability to carry the brake output circuit to the trailer brakes. So with that in mind as well what you need is the brake controller install kit part # ETBC7 which comes with everything needed to convert your 4-way to a 7-way as well as wire in a brake controller like you have as well. With just this part number you'd have everything needed to install your Venture.
Does your trailer have a 7-way connector? It should be a black, round plug with 7 total pins including a center pin.

Hey Arthur, how did things go with wiring your Curt Venture brake controller using the ETBC7 kit? Your update could make it easier for others adding a controller to their Forester. Did the 7-way setup match your trailer connection?
