Will Disc Brakes of Trailer that Has Set for 10 Years Still Work

Updated 03/05/2025 | Published 02/24/2025

Question:

I have a 34 foot Airstream limited travel trailer. It has original disc brake set up. It has not moved in 10 years. What would you recommend I replace this system with? If the system works should I leave it alone?

Hey Sam, if the system works as-is I would just leave it alone. There's good chance it's still working fine and there's no reason to fix what isn't broken. But if it is broken you'd just need to tell me the axle capacity and wheel bolt pattern of your wheels and I'd be able to determine what you need.

It’s. 1982 Air Stream with optional disc brakes. It has the Vaccuume booster mounter vertically near the props in tanks. I need to decide the way to go in making this system safe. I can send photos if you have an e mail. How much of the original system and axels to save.

@SamC Gotcha. is it possible the vacuum booster is a surge actuator and not vacuum related? I would be willing to bet what you are seeing is a master cylinder. If you want to send me pictures my email is [email protected]
