Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 Towing Trailer that Sags

Question:

I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 Vortec Max 6.0L engine Crew Cab 4x4 with Z71 package that is lifted 6inch ProComp and am tired of the rear sag when pulling my 2,000 lb trailer and 800 lb ATV. Am considering installing the Firestone F2430 kit and need to know if Air Spring Lift Spacer part number: FIR2375 will work for this application?

Since you are towing a trailer you actually would want to use a weight distribution system instead of an air bag system. Air springs are designed for carrying heavy loads in the bed of your truck, when they are used while towing a trailer they actually act as a fulcrum point and unload the front axle of the vehicle which will cause handling and braking issues in an emergency situation.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow, this figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.

Lets say your tongue weight is around 500 lbs, you will want to pick a setup where your tongue weight falls within the range of the system. For that I would recommend the Reese Weight Distribution System # RP66021.

Now since you have such a large lift kit you will need a shank with as much drop as possible. For that you will also need the Reese Weight Distribution Shank part # RP3344. This shank can do up to 7-5/8 inches of drop.

I attached an FAQ article on how to determine how much rise drop you will need out of a ball mount also.

You may also need some hitch balls. For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90, for a 2-5/16 inch ball you would want part # 19286.
