Troubleshooting Leaf Springs Hitting Trailer Frame

Updated 07/19/2024 | Published 07/14/2024

Question:

I have a 14’ double axle utility trailer I use to haul a UTV. I recently took a trip approximately 1,000 miles round trip and I noticed my rear axle trailer tires were both wearing the outside edge excessively. I started looking around the trailer and noticed the rear leaf springs on the front near the equalizer were hitting the trailer frame. The front springs on the equalizer end has a big gap between frame. Any ideas what to troubleshoot?

Hi Shaun; I would make sure the equalizer isn't bent or damaged and also check your shackles to make sure they aren't worn out. I would also check out the leaf springs to make sure they have a nice arch and aren't flat and worn out. It sounds like you need some or all of these components replaced. You will already looking under there so it would be worth checking out your hangers too. If you want you can send some pictures and I'll look to see if anything in particular stands out.

@ShaunD the comments don't allow for it right now so you have to email them. If you respond to the email that brings you to this page and attach them I'll get it.
