Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch And Bed Rails For 2015 Ford F-150

Question:

I have a 2015 Ford F150 with a 6 1/2 ft. bed. Will the Reese 16K, round tube slider, RP30869 work for this truck? Is there a custom install rail kit available for the 2015 model Ford F150? With the high sides on the Ford trucks, do you recommend certain fifth wheel heights for better bed rail clearance? Thanks

Expert Reply:

The Reese Titan 16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Round Tube Slider, part # RP30869 will work great with your 2015 F-150. The RP30869 offers a hitch height from 16-1/2 to 19-1/4 inches, and has a gross towing weight capacity of 16,000 lbs. With the higher side of the truck bed sides, you are wise in looking for a system that will work for you.

For additional height you may want to check out the Reese Titan 20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Round Tube Slider, part # RP30870. This has a height adjustment range between 17 and 20 inches. This is a 20,000 lb hitch and it has a round tube slider.

The custom rails we offer for your truck is part # RP56013-53. Installation time is cut in half with these rails versus the universal installation kit. These rails are 1-7/8 inches tall.

I sure understand the concern with the height of the bed sides on your truck. From my research I found the bed height is 21.4 inches. The combined height of the RP30869 and the RP50087-58 is 21-1/8 inches. The pin box is adjustable on most trailers so that can add needed clearance. You will need a minimum of 6 inches clearance from the top of the bed rail to the bottom of the trailer to make sure the trailer does not come in contact with the top of the bed rails when towing.

You can do some measuring to make sure you get the correct hitch. When your trailer is on level ground you can measure from the ground to the bottom of the overhang on the trailer. Then measure the distance from the ground to the top of the bed side rails on the truck. That will give you the distance between the trailer and top of the bed side rails. You can then add the height of the fifth wheel bed rails to the height of the hitch. Since the pin boxes can be lowered to give more clearance, you can determine which fifth wheel will work for you.
