I am looking for a bike rack for my 2014 Subaru Impreza Wagon that does not carry the bikes on the top of the car. On your website, I saw the Swagman Trailhead 2 Bike Carrier for 1-1/4inch and 2inch Hitches - Tilting, and was wondering if this, or another bike carrier in this category, would fit my car. The particular hitch receiver fits for your 2014 Subaru Impreza Hatchback (wagon) vary depending on the configuration of the exhaust. However, all of the hitches we offer are the 1-1/4-inch size and all are rated as Class I hitches. This means they are light-duty hitches that can carry up to 2 bikes, but no more than two.
If you have the WRX or WRX-STi (with a quad tip exhaust) you can install hitch # C11120 from Curt. If your hatchback has a single exhaust you have a choice of three hitches, all rated equally, that can be seen using the provided link.
With a Class I hitch on your Impreza you need to select a compatible Class I bike carrier. The Swagman Trailhead 2 Bike Carrier # S63360 that you referenced is fully compatible with a Class I hitch. The linked video illustrates this unit. I suggest you use a stabilizing strap # 18050 to support the rack.
The only thing you will want to check is the clearance distance on your hitch from the hitch pin hole to the rear-most part of the Impreza. This will tell you how much clearance you need from a hitch-mount rack. The Trailhead 2 offers a substantial 11-inches of clearance from the hitch pin hole to the upright bar, which should be plenty for most applications.
