Are Trailer Coupler Repair Kits Available

Published 12/28/2022

Question:

I am looking for a coupler repair kit for an old, possibly homemade trailer. It has a 2” ball and the mechanism looks similar to the titan or Atwood 2 5/16”. I can send pictures and measurements if needed. Thanks

The repair kits we currently carry are just replacement trigger latches which are brand specific so you would probably end up paying more trying to get all the parts you need instead of just replacing the coupler. It would honestly just be safer and easier to completely replace the current coupler any way.

If your trailer has an A-Frame tongue then I recommend going with the Demco Cast Head Coupler w/ Jack Hole # DM37ZR. The EZ-Latch on these makes coupling your trailer super easy and you won't run into issues locking/unlocking the hitch ball in the coupler like the old standard latches do after being out in the elements. This coupler is a bolt-on installation so you can easily do it yourself instead of paying to have someone weld it on.

If you have a straight trailer tongue then I'll need to know the size of the channel (frame thickness) to recommend the correct sized coupler.
