Is an Adapter Needed To Flat Tow a 2012 Jeep Wrangler if the Motorhome has 7-Way Blade Connector

Question:

I have a 2012 Tiffin Allegro Breeze 32 that Im trying to set up to tow a 2012 Wrangler Sport. The Breeze has separate amber turn and red stop lights, and has a 7 pin wiring connector at the stern. I Am using a Blue Ox Aventa towbar, which has a 7 to 6 pin wiring cable, and the Blue Ox Accessory Kit # Bx88231. Question is, do I need a taillight converter anywhere? If so, which one? Thankls.

Expert Reply:

As long as the 7-way on your Motorhome is wired as a combined system (which is how most are wired) then you will not need a taillight converter.

If the motorhome connection is combined, the umbilical is combined (7-way and 6-pin cord), and the Jeep is combined, all the systems are combined and compatible. To test and make sure that the 7-way is wired as a combined system, you can use a circuit tester like the Draw-Tite Circuit Tester # PTW2993 and test the blades on the 9 o'clock position and the 3 o'clock position with the brakes activated on the motorhome. Next, test the same blade locations with the turn signals activated. You should get signal on both of the pin locations if the 7-way is wired as a combined system with the brakes activated and the turn signals on. Therefore, confirming that your 7-way is a combined wiring configuration.

Please also keep in mind that you may need other safety items like the safety cables and supplemental braking system. If you do not have these then please let me know, and I can make additional recommendations for you.
