What is the Torque Specification for Installing Curt Class III 2-Inch Trailer Hitch # 13314

Question:

I just finished getting the trailer hitch 13314 on my 2001 Honda CRV and need to know how much I need to torque the bolts. I cranked on them a bit with my socket wrench, but the instructions say torque according to the instructions or something to that effect. Where can I find the specific info?

Expert Reply:

The correct torque specification for the installation hardware on Curt hitch # 13314 is 70-ft/lbs. In order to have the full rated capacity for this hitch (350-lbs tongue weight and 3500-lbs gross trailer weight) it must be installed to this spec.

I have linked the installation instructions for your review. These are brief but they do include much important information to ensure your hitch installation is complete and safe. Step 4 mentions the torque spec.

Please also note that if this hitch is ever to be used for any non-trailer loads, such as bike or cargo carriers, it must be supported by a stabilizing strap, part # 18050. This strap must be used for you to retain your Curt limited lifetime warranty coverage.
