Installation of Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch in 2022 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Today I am receiving my Companion puck system fifth wheel hitch from you for my 2022 Ford F-350 long bed. I am replacing the factory hitch that I don’t like. Current set up is slightly nose down. Based on the settings available on the hitch, I believe I will have to choose between slightly nose down and slightly nose up. Which is better? Also, I assume mounting it 3” in front of the axle is better than 1”. Do you agree? Thanks!

When installing and adjusting your Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ford Towing Prep Package, # RP30921, level is best; if level is not possible, then try to go slightly nose down since higher can sometimes cause sway.

The hitch should be installed that the trailer king pin is directly over or slightly forward of the center line of the rear truck axle. You do not want the king pin behind the trucks axle. Doing so can actually make the front end of the truck too light and have a negative impact on braking and steering performance.

Please note the linked installation video of the hitch being installed in a 2021 F-450.
