Electric Brake System for a 6000lb Axle Escort Trailer

I need to replace the complete brake system including actuator on my escort trailer. I’ll also need to replace the springs. Can you please help me with my best course of action.

I will be glad to help you set up a new brake system for your Escort Trailer. I'll start from the back and work my way forward. You didn't specify what kind of brake flange you had so I am recommending the Dexter Electric Brake Assembly for 4 Bolt or 5 Bolt Flange - 12" - Left Hand - 6,000 lbs item # 23-105-09 and Dexter Electric Brake Assembly for 4 Bolt or 5 Bolt Flange - 12" - Right Hand - 6,000 lbs item # 23-106-09.These passenger and drivers side drum brake assemblies will fit both a 4 bolt and a 5 bolt brake flange and are rated for 6000 lbs axles. They fit 14-1/2" to 16" wheels.

You will need several feet of 12 gauge water proof brake wire. I recommend the Jacketed 2 Wire (Brake Wire) - 12 Gauge - per Foot item # 12-2-1 and a package of 10 Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors item # DW05745-10. You will also need the etrailer Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit with Junction Box and RV Style Connector item # e99011. This kit includes a junction box so you can quickly and easily connect the wires from the included trailer connector to your trailer's new wiring.

For a brake actuator I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout - Disc - Zinc - 2" Ball - 7,000 lbs item # DM62VR. This actuator has an electric lockout for when you are backing up your boat trailer. This surge actuator has a corrosion-resistant composite master cylinder and zinc plating with an EZ-Latch coupler that is easy to use.

I can't make a recommendation on hubs for your trailer without knowing your lug pattern for your wheels. I would also need some more information on the current springs you have on your trailer. We already know the capacity of your axle so that helps us but you will want to jack the trailer up on jack stands so the axle is hanging freely, then measure directly across from the center of one spring eye to the other. The height of the spring and the distance from the spring eye to the center of the spring can also be helpful in finding the correct replacement.
