Does Curt Hitch For 2016 BMW X5 Replace Bumper Beam

Question:

Im considering a professional installation for a 2016 BMW X5 35i and have some questions: Does removal of the impact bar compromise safety in a rear-end collisions? Can the tailgate be fully lowered with a bike rack attached to the hitch? Can the rear hatch be fully lifted with a bike rack attached to the hitch? Is it necessary to trim the bumper fascia? Thank you!

The Curt hitch part # 13077 does require removing the impact bar on your 2016 BMW X5 but the strength of the crossmember of the hitch that replaces it would work in place of it and your vehicle would not be more dangerous in the event of accident.

Depending on what bike rack you have you'd have ability to open the rear hatch when a rack is installed. If you had a swing away rack like the Thule Apex Swing part # TH9027XT it would definitely work.

The fascia of your vehicle would need to get trimmed. I attached an install video for this for you to check out.
