Is a Stabilizing Strap Required on a Hitch for 2018 BMW X5
Question:
I read your FAQ on the 3 hitches for the 2018 BMW X5 and dont understand why the Curt Hitch # 13077 would need a stabilizing strap for bike racks. Hitches are pretty robust. Ive never used on on a hitch mounted bike rack before. Thx

On the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13077 for your 2018 BMW X5 there is no requirement for the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap for Hitch-Mounted Accessories # 18050. The strap is recommended for use with bike racks and other hitch-mounted accessories to avoid putting too much strain on your trailer hitch. Some Class I and Class II 1-1/4" hitches may require that you use a stabilizing strap to ensure that the hitch does not experience excessive torque while transporting your gear but on the class III hitch that is not required.
If you don't already have a bike rack I recommend the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR.
