Converting a 2010 Forest River Salem Travel Trailer To Hydraulic Disc Brakes
Question:
Hello, I am looking for a products recommendation for: Converting my tandem axle fifth wheel to a hydraulic disc brake system. Here are my specs: Year: 2010 Manufacture: Forest River Make: Salem LA Model: 336QBUD Weight: 11,000 lbs Tire size: ST225/75D15/D Studs: 6 on 5-1/2 Axles: 2 Axle ratings: 5200 lbs Brake controller: Tekonsha 90160 Primus IQ Electronic Brake Controller I am interested in a complete conversion, but having difficulty figuring out what I need from your site. I dont know if you offer a complete set or if I will have to piece it all together? Thanks

This will need to be pieced together to build you an entire kit.
First the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 8-213-5UC1 will replace your current brake and hub assemblies on your 2010 Forest River Salem 336QBUD. This will let you remove the brake rotors separately from the hub for service or replacement. I recommend a Bearing Buddy # BB2441SS to make greasing your bearings easily done without having to remove your hub.
I recommend the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R526S for your Salem. This brake kit uses stainless steel construction to hold up better and reduce rust and corrosion. The kit includes 2 rotors, 2 calipers, 2 caliper brackets and 4 caliper bolts.
The HydraStar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator w/ Line Kit for Disc Brakes # CAR-HBA16-2 is best mounted inside the front storage compartment to reduce the elements from damaging the unit. This kit will include the brake lines necessary to run to the brake calipers as long as the point you mount the brake actuator is within 15' of the front axle on your Salem. If you need a longer line let me know what length you have and I can suggest a different kit.
You will need to replace your Primus IQ # TK90160 as it is not compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes. I suggest the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 as it will use the same plug as your Primus and will only require you to swap out the mount. This Prodigy P3 controller is proportional like the Primus but has the ability to diagnose issues, work with electric over hydraulic brakes and is customizable.
