Trailer Hitch, Wiring, Brake Controller and Weight Distribution for 2011 BMW X5
Question:
Greetings! We have a 2011 BMW X5, xDrive35d, with the 3rd row seats. Were planning to purchase a travel trailer around 5K GVW, not to exceed this vehicles max tow limit. Were looking for a trailer brake controller/wiring/tow hitch/anti-sway/hitch balancing system that would work best for our trailering needs. From watching a few of your videos, it looks like youve got several systems that are pretty easy to bolt on/plug-n-play. Wed appreciate your input and suggestions. My next challenge is making sure the stock rear air suspension will suffice to support the added tongue weight. Also, Do you have 7-pole receiver wiring kit? Im thinking of installing one instead of a 4-pole then adding a 7-pole conversion. Thank you for your input.

For your 2011 BMW X5 the Curt Class III hitch part # 13077 would be a really great option that's mostly hidden, has more weight capacity than you'd need, and also is rated for weight distribution like you mentioned wanting as well. I attached an install video for you to check out as well to get an idea the install difficulty.
For trailer wiring we only have universal 4-way kits like the # 119250KIT which for an easy brake controller 7-way solution you'd want the Curt Echo Mobile part # C51180 and the 7-way upgrade kit part # ETBC7L and you'd be set. The Echo installs by plugging into an active 7-way and once synced to a smart phone is ready to tow with.
Then for a weight distribution system the Reese Strait Line part # RP66083 would be your best option as it has a tongue weight range of 400-800 lbs and has the best sway control at preventing sway before it starts.
For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
