I have a 2012 Ford Super Duty F250 crew cab short bed that I want to install a Husky slider 5th wheel hitch that came out of my 2004 Chevrolet 2500 crew cab short bed truck. Will this hitch work in my new truck? Will I need to buy new brackets? Is this something that I could install myself? I can see several pre drilled holes in the frame. Thanks for your help

Since a fifth wheel hitch is not a vehicle specific item, you can certainly use the Husky slider from your older truck and install it in your new F250.
You will need a new install kit, several fifth wheel hitch manufacturers make custom install kits that would be compatible including Husky, Curt and Reese. The Husky kit is part # HT31408-686. If you would prefer Reese, then you can use # RP56016-53 or for Curt, # C16424-204. Each kit includes the frame brackets, bed rails and all necessary installation hardware. All of these kits are compatible with Husky fifth wheel hitches.
Curt is the least expensive of the bunch, but the Reese kit, # RP56016-53, is by far the easiest to install. The frame brackets from this kit extend to the outboard side of the frame rails, so you are not having to fight with limited space under the truck when installing the hitches. This kit is certainly something you can do at home and it would be my recommendation if you are going to do it yourself.
I have linked you to the installation instructions so you can check them out.
