Comparing Yakima BackRoad and RidgeBack 4-Bike Hitch Bike Racks

Hey guys, Do you have a comparison of the Backroad vs. Ridgeback? I am looking at both of these in a 4-bike option for my 2019 Subaru Forester with a 2inch receiver. Was wondering which of these would you recommend to carry 2 adult bikes and 2 kids bikes. Thanks!

Both the Yakima BackRoad # YA44FR and the Yakima RidgeBack # Y02458 are excellent bike racks but I think I'd choose the BackRoad over the RidgeBack to be honest.

The RidgeBack has an easier installation method with the snap pin and tool-free anti-rattle, but the BackRoad is a newer model from Yakima and uses the new 7" spacing between the cradles. While this might not seem like a big deal, I've loaded up 4 bikes on the RidgeBack before and it was almost like putting a puzzle together.

The trade-off for using an anti-rattle bolt instead of the integrated locking anti-rattle system on the RidgeBack is that the BackRoad comes in at a lower price-point. The RidegBack has the rack lock so you'd need part # Y02466 to lock your bikes, while the BackRoad has the bike lock so you'd need part # Y07235 to lock the rack which is once again more cost-effective.

Please note that you'll probably need the Adapter Bar # Y02531 so that your kid's bikes will fit and sit level, and then I also recommend picking up the Yakima PlateMate # Y02713 to put your license plate front-and-center (the attached video on this is where I loaded up the 4 bikes on the RidgeBack).

I've attached a handful of review videos for you to check out.
